About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Daniel Suarez delivers an exhilarating sci-fi thriller exploring a potential future where CRISPR genetic editing allows the human species to control evolution itself.

On a crowded train platform, Interpol agent Kenneth Durand feels the sting of a needle - and his transformation begins....

In 2045 Kenneth Durand leads Interpol's most effective team against genetic crime, hunting down black market labs that perform "vanity edits" on human embryos for a price. These illegal procedures augment embryos in ways that are rapidly accelerating human evolution - preying on human-trafficking victims to experiment and advance their technology.

With the worlds of genetic crime and human trafficking converging, Durand and his fellow Interpol agents discover that one figure looms behind it all: Marcus Demang Wyckes, leader of a powerful and sophisticated cartel known as the Huli jing.

But the Huli jing have identified Durand, too. After being forcibly dosed with a radical new change agent, Durand wakes from a coma weeks later to find he's been genetically transformed into someone else - his most wanted suspect: Wyckes.

Now a fugitive, pursued through the genetic underworld by his former colleagues and the police, Durand is determined to restore his original DNA by locating the source of the mysterious - and highly valuable - change agent. But Durand hasn't anticipated just how difficult locating his enemy will be. With the technology to genetically edit the living, Wyckes and his Huli jing could be anyone and everyone - and they have plans to undermine identity itself.

This truly is one of the top books I’ve ever read/listened to; the story is amazing, plausible, engaging, but every time a character used the Lord’s name in vain, I was very close to stopping. Why is it necessary to write with this language?

One of the best books, except for Lord’s name in vain.

I have really enjoyed some of Daniel Suarez’ other books immensely. As such, I had to try this new one.

Change Agent was tough to get through, even being passive as an audible book. It really seemed that it was trying to make a humanitarian point amidst downright foul human nature. So many characters were so poorly fleshed out or killed off, I had a hard time trying to understand who to care about. Nonetheless, the research and care Suarez took into his writing makes this book worth a strong look.

Long and Drawn out

Daniel Suarez is one of the very best new SF writers. Jeff Gurner is excellent for these roles. Have some kratom maeng & enjoy the whole story. Looking forward to the next...

Gripping

I really expected more but it was not as intense or engrossing. Nothing to do with the performance but the plot seemed almost cookie cutter in how it progressed.

I wish it was better, it was a good story and plot but execution seemed to fail for me and was not a memorable read. I’ll come back after a month or two and listen to it again and maybe it will seem better following a second attempt at listening sometimes a book is better second time round.

It was okay but not intense like other novels by Suarez

Somewhere between Bourne Identity and Minority Report, this book is great if you're looking for a read that's not too deep but entertaining most of the time nevertheless.

And like a summer popcorn movie, there were times I was wincing and turned off by on the nose/cheesy. But other moments very much enthralled and engaged.

Also fun to think about a near future in which humans have figured out everything to do w DNA and how to manipulate it to our liking.

Reader gives a very committed and enthusiastic performance.

Popcorn movie, but set in very intriguing bio futuristic world

The only thing I don't like about Mr. Suarez is that it takes a while in between books. Right on the edge between science-fiction and science fact seems to be his strongest point. Characters you instantly like , or fear abound throughout. One review I read was lousy book will make a great movie. I so disagree! As always Jeff Gurner is superb . Do yourself a favor and check this book out and his earlier work as well. D.T. Carter

Another solid winner for Daniel Suarez

Would you listen to Change Agent again? Why?

Truly a scary picture of our future, but a riveting story that I would definitely listen to again and again.

Any additional comments?

If this is our future, I'm very happy that I will be dead by then. The scary truth is that this could very easily be the future of man on this planet.

If this is our future...

Suarez and Gurner have easily become my favorite storytelling tandem. Just... WOW!

An incredible sneak peek at the future of technology, currency, travel, society and... life woven into an edge-of-your-seat thriller, Change Agent, delivers everything we've come to expect from a Daniel Suarez novel. The breath and depth of knowledge conveyed across so many different fields makes the reader appreciate the amount of research spent preparing for this book. The unique characters, pace of action, and surprising plot twists keep the pages turning. While the imaginative, yet believable, applications of near-future technologies keep the reader longing for the next Suarez novel.

Can't wait for the next one!

AMAZING plot, research and performance... again.
