I thought the story was fine. There were some really well written scenes that I enjoyed, but for the first like 100 pages I wasn’t that enthralled. And after all the action started there were times I felt like he didn’t know how to connect scenes together. It’s a good enough story that if you haven’t read it before and you enjoy horror that’s more PG-13 you’d probably enjoy reading it once, but I don’t feel like I’ll ever read it a second time.
I didn’t enjoy the narrator (but tbh I know I’m kinda picky about that)

The narrator was fine. Not fabulous, not annoying.

The writing was blech! Self-help pretending to be fiction, dumbed down for the masses. One or two wise phrases. Many phrases trying to wise, but just being trite. And some repeated over and over - sometimes within a couple sentences of each other. What started out as a kind of pretty phrase quickly became someone repeatedly hitting me over the head with a bouquet of flowers.

There were some sound principles behind the idea, but the way they were presented was insulting.

The Christ figure (or God or angel or whatever you saw him as) basically held them hostage, trying to force repentance. Trying to force therapeutic healing. And once they'd realized their misperceptions, everything was going to be all better.

I just didn't like it at all.

So much fun! Charming characters. I was impressed by how the author was able to create obvious caricatures of people typical to a small town and yet give them such truth and depth. I would absolutely recommend this to friends looking for a light hearted read. A pleasant escape to a simpler time.

And the reader was wonderful! Like yummy raspberry sauce on a perfect cheesecake.
