Laugh Out Loud Funny!!!!
Reviewed: 02-11-23
I wasn't sure about getting this audiobook due to the sad story it covered but I decided to take a chance. I am so happy I did! This audiobook was hilarious and I was laughing out loud most of the time listening to it. Modern day references, Shakespeare quotes and best of all Monty Python quotes made this a truly wonderful experience. I know some of the other audiobooks in this series got less than stellar reviews but I will take a chance of those too. I'm a big fan of Katherine Kellgren and she did a great job with this story. If you are on the fence about this audiobook fall off on the side of buying it. You won't regret it.

Love this series

I have listened to the first two books in this series and loved both of them. I am waiting for the rest of the series to become available on Audible. The characters are well fleshed out and very real. They have flaws and strengths which make them very endearing. I really like the fact that as the series progresses you get to meet a lot of Lord Edgington and Chrissy's family and friends. Lord Edgington's affection and belief in Chrissy is evident and Chrissy's confidence grows under that affection and belief. The mysteries are well written and keep you guessing until the end. The time setting allows you get a real sense of the period including the societal norms and the changes taking place within those norms. The books are entertaining and George Blagden is the perfect narrator for them.

This audible book is the second one in the series. It was better than the first one which was incredible. The character detail was fleshed out and the story was riveting from the first chapter. I enjoy the way Ms. Goss goes back and forth between the story and the characters take on it. This book, although very serious, had a few moments of humor that made me laugh out loud. The narration by Kate Reading was great as all her narration is. She gives each character their own voice and it is easy to distinguish between them.
This audiobook is 24 hrs and 27 minutes long but I was sad when it ended. I felt totally immersed in the story and did not want it to end. I am anxious for Ms. Goss to finish the 3rd book. I loved the way she tied up the story but threw out hints about the next one.
I would suggest reading these books in order.

What did you love best about Memento Mori?
The setting of Ruth Downie's book. You actually feel like you are living in that time. Oh and the humor in the book is just as great as the setting.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Tilla is my favorite character. She is a strong woman who knows how to successfully navigate various situations. She does not let what others think affect what she knows is right. Of course all of the characters are like old friends.
Which scene was your favorite?
I don't really have a specific scene. I enjoyed the entire book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book made me laugh at times. It is a serious mystery that does not take itself seriously.
Any additional comments?
I always look forward to the Medicus books by Ruth Downie. I buy her audiobooks the day they come out and I listen to it right away, even if I'm in the middle of another audiobook. The characters are like old friends. I love finding out what they have been doing and I feel like I know them The mysteries are just complicated enough to keep you interested and red herrings abound! And of course Simon Vance is one of the greatest narrators Audible has. He could read a phone book and I would listen to it. I would suggest starting at the beginning of the series. You will not want to miss a minutes of Russo, Tilla and their friends.
