About this listen

Something is rotten at the Oakton Academy for Distinguished Young Gentlemen.

With rumors of fighting, cheating, and all-night parties—and that’s just the teachers—the headmaster is losing control of the school.

When a body is discovered, bludgeoned to death with a monkey statue on the last day of term, renowned detective Lord Edgington and his bumbling grandson Christopher are on hand to search for the killer. But with such a range of despicable suspects—again, that's just the teachers—plotting prefects, and maniacal students to choose from, will the discordant duo be up to the challenge?

The second book in the Lord Edgington Investigates mystery series has all the intrigue, humor, and twists of its best-selling predecessor, Murder at the Spring Ball.

A Body at a Boarding School is a 1920s-style whodunnit in a wonderfully wicked setting with a cast of curious characters to enjoy. Discover whether the great Lord Edgington can catch the killer and be home in time for afternoon tea.

Narrated by George Blagden from the TV shows Vikings, Versailles, and the Oscar-winning film Les Misérables.

Delightful story!

This was the second book of Benedict Brown’s that I've listened to. I like his style of relating the inner impressions of Chrissy.…a 16 year old that is growing in knowledge while being plagued with doubt. Great method of teaching investigative ability, too.

Great narration and story

Another cosy crime mystery by Benedict Brown which I enjoyed thoroughly. Very interesting and fun characters, especially some of the shady characters, who provided quite a fair bit of LOL time.
Narrator was fantastic! He gave so much life to each character.

Could have been more polished; however, enjoyed.

This is one of Brown’s earlier writings. It is interesting to hear him progress into a better writer. With this said, although parts of the writing I find absurd, the overall story is enjoyable. Could

Clever with wonderful characters!

This book follows the first with humor and endearing characters, especially the narrator, this humor is greater this second time because the victims are not family members, and the woes of a boy in a boarding school provide much more fodder. The narrator is excellent and captures each voice just right. Enjoy!

A delightful series!

Benedict Brown has created a perfect example of a classic British cozy mystery series. The characters are thoroughly lovable and the plot twists and turns engaging. Add to that George Blangden's wonderful narration and you have a series that so far (I'm currently listening to the third title) leaves absoulutely nothing to be desired.

Excellent storytelling!

I think Christopher is an honest character. Not perfect but willing and able. His family isn't perfect either but as perfect families don't exist, he is doing just fine. Great story, moves quickly and a most enjoyable listen.

Absolutely delightful series

Loved the characters and the whole boarding school vibe. It resounded as very authentic in many ways. Excellent writing. I was entertained throughout. Clues were given but every one could be interpreted in more than one way. So, good luck trying to guess who the murderer is. You never know until the end if the murderer was an obvious suspect or someone you would imagine.

All that at a boarding school!

Another wonderful installment of the Lord Edginton (and Christopher) investigations. This time it's set at Chrissy's boarding school on the last day before summer. Again he's being bullied, but that's nothing compared to the beating the Headmaster had in store for him!
Chrissy stumbles upon the unusual murder while escaping a pair of bullies. But he quickly becomes involved in the investigations when his grandfather takes over. It's very complicated as the mysteries written by this author are. But what fun trying to untangle them before the boy and the senior do. Not a chance. I never came close.
I totally enjoy these mysteries and have lined up a few more ready to read.
The narrator is jolly good!m too!
