Story
When quiet Orrin and his extroverted best friend, Daniel, were transported to a strange RPG-based world, not much changed between them. Daniel became a hero of legend, while Orrin remained his unobtrusive shadow. Only when they faced a particularly lethal foe did Orrin step out of his comfort zone and display his true worth—with powers he didn't know he had. Of course, Daniel got all the glory, but Orrin doesn't mind. He's just happy they're both still alive.

Good but lacking growth.
Reviewed: 09-13-24
Enjoying the story overall, as well as the performance, but I am struggling with how stupid the 3 MCs are.
There's just not enough growth/learning and they're continually under-utilising their abilities, resources and opportunities in such obvious ways. It makes it hard to be sympathetic towards them when they're always shooting themselves in the foot. Poor Daniel seems to be getting totally pushed to the side and painted as nothing but a meatshield, as yet was meant to be the golden child? confusing!
also -1 for shitty cliffhanger ending. Poor form on an already short story with a slow release schedule.

Story
Matt and many of his people are alive, and they've found a new ally, more or less, but the damage done to the dungeon and its future are beyond measure. Time and great effort are needed to repair the cracks, to seal the warping and to rebuild, but the world after the fall isn't somewhere anyone can afford to wait around in. Matt and his people must push on, they must grow, they have to rise up if they are to have any chance of surviving.

A slow descent into smarmy sex fluff
Reviewed: 09-15-23
This started off as one of my top ever LiTRPG series, but the pace and content has changed so much.....
The cheesey sex talk and boys will be boys pervy crap has dramatically increased each book, and it's really painful.....
I think the first book had a great amount, enough that it was entertaining, even funny sometimes. Now it's so frequent and predictable that it's just frustrating and really 'immersion breaking'. It's seriously detracting from the whole experience.....
Finally, I fully understand that the story has changed from 'running for our lives and every encounter is a fight to survive' to 'base building and community construction' but the meetings are getting a bit too much. Matt needs to stick to what he's planned/promised and let the girls take over the dungeon. Which means we need to hear less about their process/justification and rather hear more succinct updates/reports.......
We're working our way from one man's survival of the apocalypse to full blown intergalactic planetary war of species survival. Let's make sure we don't lose momentum before the big baddie even arrives!
......I very rarely write reviews, but I love this series and because I know I'm going to continue reading it, I'd like to try contribute towards each instalment being an improvement, rather than a descent into smarmy sex fluff.

Story
Betrayed by those they'd taken in and narrowly avoiding a disaster of untold proportions, Lyrian and his friends are once again thrust into a fight for their very survival, this time against Carver and his band of murderous adventurers. But as their newfound war quickly reaches a stalemate, both sides find themselves scrambling for a way to break it, while viciously battling one another for every inch of ground that they can steal in the process.

Far too long, despite almost no progression

Books 1-3 are some of my favourite LitRPG works to date, but this book's feels like it was written by someone else entirely, and by someone paid by the word.
Nothing actually happens, no one grows and there's no major plot development, yet it's a huge book. I went from super pumped on its arrival to actually giving up on trying to finish it.

Love the politics, characters & urban fantasy vibe

I thought Book 4 was fantastic and a step up from book 3. it's definitely a change of pace, but that's expected from a transition in arcs.
I'm shocked at how many reviews seem surprised/upset by the political commentary in the story. I don't understand how someone could think that Magical institutions embroiled with modern day governments, in a current day Earth setting wouldn't be a hugely politicised situation?
Also... lol at all the butthurt Americans triggered by the tiniest bit of bad press, feeling targeted despite the fact Jason rips on his own Aussie govt. just as much, if not more 😂

A dramatic decline into the creepy and cringey
Reviewed: 11-30-21
I've been really enjoying the story overall up until this book. The narrative and world building were coming along fine but this book just turned into some nerds wish fulfilment creep-fest.
The portion of this book dedicated to poorly written creeping of the MC on his Bebe dragon is ridiculous. I really don't need the father-daughter bestiality development on top of the cringey and over-done sex obsession the MC has with Mrs Zerker.
I swear every second sentence is either about their shape, smell or how bad he wants to fuck them both.
Please author, just have a wank before you start writing each day for the next book okay?

Story
On Karell, you are either blessed by the gods, granted a unique power and the ability to gain experience and levels, or you are forgotten. Micah Silver was a boy picked for greatness. Chosen by the gods to bear a mythic power, he longed to take his place amongst the heroes and legends he grew up reading about. Unfortunately, his primary blessing only allows him to travel into the past by sacrificing his class, wealth, and levels - a psychological burden that Micah is reluctant to shoulder. But, even if Micah is unwilling, fate has a way of forcing you to face your destiny.
