The perfect performance for the audio format, this episodic makes you want to bring back old time radio programs. It was laugh out loud funny with a full storyline that made sense and incredible voice actors who really brought the story to full fruition.

You don’t have to, but when you do it makes the most beautiful and complete picture. Backman is one of the most endearing and emotional writers of our time. I absolutely love the feeling I get while I’m immersed in his stories. My favorite series for sure. This is the kind of series you buy in hard back and pass onto your kids.

What a great story! I just knew I knew exactly where this story was going and I had it all figured out, but the twists and turns towards the end really sent me for a loop. Some of the the ending comes out of nowhere, but all in all a good, solid read. Just the right length and doesn’t doddle around.

This story is dragging on and I don’t care
Reviewed: 10-20-21
This series should have ended 2 books ago, but it drags on. Every time a new book comes out I am first in line to pre-order. Haha. It’s still an action packed adventure with so many story lines maintaining a heightened sense of stimulation and there are times that when you do get a break in the action you’re left panting and being grateful.
That said, I don’t see an end in site for this series. Every time another book comes out I’m like, what now. I will say, though, I’m quite interested for the next one as there’s a new direction the story seems to be taking. Here for the ride ‘til the wheels fall of!

Story
Practical, unassuming Jane Shoringfield has done the calculations and decided that the most secure path forward is this: a husband, in a marriage of convenience, who will allow her to remain independent and occupied with meaningful work. Her first choice, the dashing but reclusive Doctor Augustine Lawrence, agrees to her proposal with only one condition: that she must never visit Lindridge Hall, his crumbling family manor outside of town. Yet on their wedding night, an accident strands her at his door in a pitch-black rainstorm, and she finds him changed.

Last 1/3 dropped the rating
Reviewed: 10-20-21
This story began and I was drawn in and fascinated. However, as it began to wrap up with 4 hours left it started dragging a bit. It was bogged down in wordiness and over explanation. The last third would make for a better visual than the writing gave. It as a bit convoluted and confusing and drug on for too long once the door disappears.
Worth the listen if you just want to fill the time before the next book, but easily skippable.

They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Really hard to finish
Reviewed: 09-20-21
I love this author. I love this narrator. I barely made it through this book. I had to force myself to finish it. I’ve listened to the Bobiverse series countless times. My husband and I put it on when we go to sleep or on a road trip and we can’t agree on what to listen to. But this… it’s definitely one of his earlier works and you can tell. The first 1/3 of the book I was asking what all the bad reviews were about, the 2nd 1/3 I had lots and lots of questions, and the last 1/3 was seeing how fast I could make it go and still vaguely keep up with the story. I should have stopped and gotten my credit back about 4 hours ago.

Don’t listen to the bad reviews

Look, this is a space opera in all its glory. If you don’t want to listen to a radio show, skip this one. That’s basically what this is. I happened to love it. I read reviews saying it was lewd and profane beyond normal, but wasn’t. There was a lot less of the non stop ranting than usual, which I appreciated. All the different, and very talented voices brought the characters to life in a wonderful way.
2 minutes in I was thinking, yep, they were right. 5 minutes in I was thinking, what were they talking about? This is great! There are some points that drag on with the alien AI, and some parts where the aliens are very difficult to understand. It’s a very small part and the main reason it gets a 4. I like shorts like this. Wry different and appreciated.

Story
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

Eh...
Reviewed: 02-22-21
The story is decent, the narration is fabulous, but the writing is, eh. It’s a mother’s miserable, emotional, decent of a year following the disappearance of her daughter. The entire first hours of the book is the mother being depressed and reliving the day over and over in her mind, becoming more and more unhinged. There are no clues given throughout the story so the reader can help figure out what’s happened. You wait until 2/3 of the way through when you think everything will be revealed at the housewarming, but there’s a tiny clue given that sets off another spiral for the mother.
The pacing is not that good. The story is ok enough that, the completionist that I am, I had to find out what happened, all of which is revealed by one twist after another, literally in the last hour of the book. Not a very layered mystery with twists and turns, more like the mystery is in the background and at the end they say, ok, let’s wrap this thing up. Here are all the clues we should have given you and here’s all the twists and turns at one time and here’s what happened, all in 30 mins.

Story
Civil war looms in the Bobiverse in this brand-new, epic-length adventure by Audible number one best seller Dennis E. Taylor. More than a hundred years ago, Bender set out for the stars and was never heard from again. There has been no trace of him despite numerous searches by his clone-mates. Now Bob is determined to organize an expedition to learn Bender’s fate - whatever the cost. But nothing is ever simple in the Bobiverse. Bob’s descendants are out to the 24th generation now, and replicative drift has produced individuals who can barely be considered Bobs anymore.

Taylor and Porter do it again
Reviewed: 11-10-20
Once again Dennis Taylor writes a story that is deep and complex. It has enough science and pop references for the geek in us, and enough wonder and creativity for the adventurer in us, while managing to layer in some action and pearl clutching.
I love how he explores the AI personalities and drift from original Bob. The number of characters we get to see again and the. Are introduced to is large, but they are memorable and thoroughly fished out. There are multiple complex plots happening and all are completed without cheapness.
Ray Porter, as always, does an incredible job of bringing each individual to true life. He is to be commended. I have not been disappointed by anything he has done.
