Monkees unite!! its Brilliant

This dramatized new story of our favourite pirates and their jerk of an Elder AI - Skippy the Magnificient, is superb. It is a lot of fun having different actors taking the parts (no slight to the inestimable R.C. Bray and his wonderful job reading all other ExFor stories) and I find it hilarious to hear Kate Mulgrew playing Nagatha…
Have no fear... Skippy is here and Joe sounds like Joe.
Don't listen to the other monkees who don't like this.. they didn't get enough ba-na-nas today..

Different, but still an excellent book.

it's different, don't go in expecting the same Beer can and Bishop format. It's book 7.5, not a full book, like Paradise was a .5 book. And like Paradise, it's different from the old format. Go into it with an open mind, enjoy it for what it is.

never disappointed

loved every second of it and I usually hate audio dramas with all the sound affects and multiple narrators but I didn't want it to end

Epic!

It was hard to get used to all the background sounds and various voice actors, but this turned out fantastic!! As usual, it was too short, but I'm going to listen over and over!!

100% Drama 100% Action 1/2 the time

If you’re expecting a book like the others don’t bother.... If you’re expecting an updated version of a radio drama then it’s more your speed. The sound design was great, the voice actors amazing, the story however felt rushed and lacked a lot of the details that you get in other books. It does a good job of getting its point across but fails in certain respects, it’s still a decent story but it’s very action oriented, again less of a book and more of a drama which it is labeled as, but, naming it book 7.5 was a mistake. I think stating the events happen between 7 and 8 was a good idea but again it lends to the expectation of a book... which it isn’t. I feel like I’m harping on that point but that’s because it really threw me for a loop. This isn’t to say that the teams didn’t put together a good drama, they did. It was exciting in places, it had me laughing at points, the sound effects and actors did a great job of immersion into the story. I think the second listen through will be far better than the first but it took until 10 minutes into chapter 3 for me to adjust to the format and get into the story. You really do need to set aside time to listen to this one, in the end it was worth the credit.

Meh

The story was good and in keeping with the series, but the performance was meh at best and the recording sounded like it was made using a taught strong and a tin can. Just let RCB. narrate the whole thing.

An ok attempt, but not as good as the books

I Love this series. Yes, I will exercise longer, sit in my car, walk my dog extended miles just to keep listening. The narration and the writing in the series is excellent (as you know if you're coming to look at this 7.5 title). But this doesn't cut it at the same great level. Audio sound effects seem forced, production is too over the top. While I would love to see RC Bray and Craig Alanson land a tv deal, this first audio drama would be a good rough draft, but not up to the quality of the books in the past.

Not all audiobook writers make good radio dramatists. The evidence is still out. Judge for yourself, but I hope they go back to the main format for future work. . .(and get that TV deal).

Holy.... I will never hear Nagatha the same!

It’s EXForce at its best! Was glad to hear RC as skippy and Joe! I have been laughing from the beginning of this audio drama. Only a few issuees so far. Some of the sound effects over power the dialogue. Especially when the STARS team is speaking in their helmets. Also skippy’s tincan reverb gets annoying at times. Overall it’s been a fun ride and listen. RC’s nagatha will not cut it anymore, your going to have to get Kate from now on.

Good

It was a difficult start. Very produced, lots of noise and music, sometimes made it a little difficult to follow. The story was great and was pretty fun. I got used to all the noise and overall I really did like it. I might even miss some of that "Audio Drama" quality in the future ;)

stunning. thrilling! opaque.. persimmons?

Loved the magnificence as always, though the audio was a little tough to follow for a couple spots due to the background effects being a little too loud... other than that, along with the uniqueness of the audio opera dramaesque 50s quality sitting by your grammy's old time radio, I give it 4 1/2 skippys (the standard measurement of all things in the club of skippy azirmonie.)
