Story
Being a defective marks me in the eyes of the Solis Fae. Wingless. Magicless. Weak. To my kind, I’m nothing—not when strength is needed to survive the perpetual snow and ice that shrouds our northern continent in endless winter. But I’ve persevered, living a meaningful yet simple life with my sister...until the hated Crown Prince of the Winter Court thunders into our village. Prince Norivun’s massive black wings and potent magic cloud my senses and steal my breath. He’s beautiful yet brutal, so when he whisks me away and locks me in his castle I’m certain my death is tomorrow’s promise.

That narrator though

Have 2 hours to go. Narrator sounds like an annoyingly cheerful/whiny Disney princess reading a book, to a group of children, about wanting to get it on with the man that killed her family. The prince sounds like a snotty douche nugget. I might not be able to finish the book. I’ll give it a bit longer just to see if the story is good enough to push through what amounts to nails down a chalkboard, for me. So far some parts have potential but other parts make me want to slam my head into a wall.

MC is so meh
Reviewed: 06-24-24
I love everything about this series except the main female character. She’s sooooo negative about everything. Total doom and gloom, all the time. She finds the bad in every single situation rather than anything positive. The denial and avoidance of truth is enough already. I find myself constantly cringing or rolling my eyes at her. Like ugh wake up and get over yourself.

Story
When the three siren sisters disappear into the underworld, Evie Black thinks she might finally get a break from the chaos that had become her life. Not a chance. Someone from her past shows up out of nowhere, and now the Akuma demons are on Evie's trail. As if that weren't enough for a pregnant supernatural hybrid to handle, a mysterious fog seeps through a crack in the gate to the underworld and wreaks havoc in the town.

Not great but better than nothing
Reviewed: 04-05-24
It’s horribly written and obviously one of Leia’s earlier books because I’ve read much better by her. Story is whatever, not the worst but not super original, a little flat. Characters are TERRIBLE and very the bad end of cliche. Brock is super misogynistic, Evie is the “super strong woman” while also thinking Brock’s misogyny is “cute”. The romance is cheesy AF. Cass is like a skeevy uncle. Molly is most likable while also being a lame fangirl. The rest are shallow whatevers.
That being said, I had nothing better to listen to while waiting for my regular series to come out with new books and I did listen to the whole series. I read A LOT and when I’m not reading I’m listening. This is series is meh and had my eyes rolling a whole bunch but it’s not the worst. Narrator did a decent job considering what she had to work with.

Story
With both her best friend and sister safe, Rosalind has nearly everything she wants. The three of them dream of a simple life together - a cozy little house in the woods. If nothing else, it would take Rosalind far away from the gorgeous incubus Caine and the conflicted feelings he inspires. But when Rosalind's psychopathic cousin Drew invades the vampire kingdom, the slaughter begins. He punishes Rosalind in the worst way possible. Now under siege, Rosalind's old plans are in shambles.

Love the story, can’t stand the weird narration
Reviewed: 03-31-23
Narrator is almost monotone and hangs on to words with a weird breathy effect. Reads really choppy. Man voices are really unattractive for men that are supposed to be attractive. It’s just weird. I think I’ve listened to other books she narrated and super disliked then too. Still not the worst I’ve heard, hence 2 star rather than 1. Happy with the continuing story.

Then there's the small matter of the High Court requesting her presence in Faerie. Now the wrong fae has answered her summons, and she's stuck with a not-so-charming prince who offers to fix all her problems...for a price. She can't afford to tell him no, but with her luck, she might not survive saying yes.

Terrible Narrator
Reviewed: 10-18-21
She barely changes voices between characters, she has a lisp that drove me nuts. Sounds like a teacher reading to kids. She’s just not a good narrator at all. Story was great and only reason I kept listening. Narrator of first book in the series was MUCH better.

Story
Let's get one thing straight - Ivy Wilde is not a heroine. In fact she's probably the last witch in the world you'd call if you needed a magical helping hand, regardless of her actual abilities. If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day every day on her sofa, where she could watch TV, munch junk food, and talk to her feline familiar to her heart's content. However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch.

Narrator drove me nuts
Reviewed: 06-15-21
She sounds too old, too American, too unsexy. You can’t find the male character attractive when he sounds like an old man with a handlebar mustache, a pipe, a bow tie and like an American trying to do a stereotyped, stuffy, posh British accent. Ivy sounds like a cartoon character forced to be quirky. Or like Daphne mixed with Thelma from Scooby Doo. Story was fun, though so I kept listening and will listen to the rest of the series too.
