Two points is generous

I have loved every book I read of Paula Brackston so I was excited to read this one.
It was BORING. It did not segue smoothly between centuries, After a momentous event occurs mid book the rest of the book is tedious accounts of how long the wait is for some resolution. I am disappointed.

Story
Lately, Kate has a lot on her dessert plate. She's launching a cookie-of-the-day challenge in the heart of Coral Cay, providing sweet treats for the reception of the town's handsome new veterinarian - not to mention dealing with tourists in town for a pirate festival and the surprise arrival of her former fiance, Evan, who seems determined to win her back. And if that's not enough, a skeleton has been found - in the backyard behind her best friend Maxi's floral shop. Kate knows Maxi could never hurt a fly.

Love the book - don't love the narration

These stories need a new reader. The narrator makes every character sound as if they are playing in a bouncy ball house all the time. Her emotional range is upbeat or upbeat. The narration detracts from the authentic humanness of the characters

Story
Kate McGuire’s life was sweet in Manhattan before she lost her restaurant job and fiancé both. But sometimes that’s just the way the cookie crumbles, and soon she finds herself starting from scratch in the island town of Coral Cay, Florida. It has everything she’s looking for: sunny beaches, friendly locals, and a Help Wanted sign in the bakery shop window. Once she convinces the shop’s crusty owner Sam Hepplewhite to hire her, Kate can’t tie on her apron fast enough. Little does she know that trouble, like warm dough, is on the rise.

In need of genuine emotion

These books are great and I enjoy them but the narrator is terrible. Her affect is always bouncy and upbeat even when things are awful. More genuine emotion would make this book more enjoyable.

Story
Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland.

Story
High adventure and dark mystery combine in a sparkling historical romance, by Jodi Taylor writing as Isabella Barclay from The Chronicles of St. Mary's. Bascombe, widowed and tied to an impoverished estate, has learned to ask little of life. With no hope of leaving, the years have passed her by. Lord Ryde, exiled abroad after a scandal, has returned to strip his estate and make a new start in America.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Bachelor Establishment to be better than the print version?
I never read the printed version but I love Audible because the characters come alive
What did you like best about this story?
I didn't know what to expect from Isabella Barclay since her character is so awful in the St Mary Chronicles but it was inconsequential.
Which scene was your favorite?
I loved the initial encounter. The repartee was always fun
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When he says she has gotten into his heart. Awwwwww
Any additional comments?
I don't normally love Regency Romance stuff but this was fun.

What did you like best about Pirates and Prejudice? What did you like least?
I am a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice so almost any story related to Darcy and Elizabeth is fun for me
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The premise is adorable and exciting...but once the love is 'declared' the last few chapters are overkill. I ended up skipping parts and skipping the whole last chapter
Which character – as performed by Tiffany Halla Colonna – was your favorite?
Elizabeth
Do you think Pirates and Prejudice needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
no follow up. It was too much of a good thing at the end. The only way a follow up would work is if it was them sailing together but not as pirates
