Publisher's summary

In Eve Calder's Sugar and Vice, things are heating up at the Cookie House when star pastry chef and amateur sleuth Kate McGuire finds herself in the midst of a shocking murder mystery.

Out of the oven...

Lately, Kate has a lot on her dessert plate. She's launching a cookie-of-the-day challenge in the heart of Coral Cay, providing sweet treats for the reception of the town's handsome new veterinarian - not to mention dealing with tourists in town for a pirate festival and the surprise arrival of her former fiance, Evan, who seems determined to win her back.

And into the fire...

And if that's not enough, a skeleton has been found - in the backyard behind her best friend Maxi's floral shop. Kate knows Maxi could never hurt a fly. Maybe the remains belong to Sir George Bly, a long-dead pirate whose name has become urban legend - until now? It's time for Kate to use every trick in the recipe book to prove Maxi's innocence, and find the truth about the skeleton, before the last of the cookies crumble...

Narrator Christa Lewis brings character to life

Light, entertaining story. Admirable that two main characters are strong women who are true friends. The scope of talent to bring the wide variety of characters to life by the narrator was surprising. Hard to believe at times it's the same person doing all.

I will look for more books by both author and narrator.

Entertaining

Love this series for a quick, entertaining read that will allow you to refocus after reading an emotional read. These books have it all - mystery, detective work and close friends always trying to solve a problem. The way they go about it is thoroughly entertaining and sometimes makes you laugh out loud. Fun read!

Long

This was a very good book but didn’t need 67 chapters. The narrator was excellent.

Easy listening and easy to follow

I’m finding I’m enjoying this series and I look forward to listening to the next book. I finished this one in one day, well doing house work. It made the day pass a lot more smooth. One thing I like about these books so far is that you can’t really guess ahead of time “who done it”. I like the characters in the friendships that are built. The narrators voice is easy to listen to and follow. Just an easy and fun book to listen to. I definitely recommend it.

LOVE THIS SERIES AND BOOK

I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK, THE STORYLINE, AND THE CHARACTERS. KATE IS SUCH A PERFECT MIXTURE OF SOFTNESS AND STRENGTH. MAXI, THE VOICE OF REASON AND A GREAT FRIEND AND SLEUTHING PARTNER. BUT IT JUST WOULDN'T BE COMPLETE WITHOUT OLIVER. NOW, I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 3. I DO HOPE WE SEE A LOT MORE OF THE NEW VET.

Book 2 in the awesome Cookie House cozy series

I love this series! The characters are likable and interesting,. There is humor, friendship and an intriguing cozy mystery! Kate co-owns The Cookie House with Sam and is friends with Maxi who owns the flower shop next door. They both belong to a book club which adds additional wonderful characters. It is Pirate week in Coral Cay,FL and everyone is getting in the spirit. Kate and Maxi and Kate’s dog Oliver are digging a garden in the flower shop’s backyard when they discover bones. There are rumors that Gentleman George was a long ago local pirate and he is buried on the island along with some treasure. Could the bones be his? Plus Kate’s ex-Fiancé Evan shows up and wants her back. A new veterinarian moves to town. There is a lot going on to keep Kate and friends busy investigating! This is the 2nd book in the series and was just as awesome as the first book! Add these to your To Read pile! The audiobook is very well done and the narrator is the perfect voice for the characters.

Love the book - don't love the narration

These stories need a new reader. The narrator makes every character sound as if they are playing in a bouncy ball house all the time. Her emotional range is upbeat or upbeat. The narration detracts from the authentic humanness of the characters

I hope there is more to come!

Not necessarily a dislike, but I accidentally listened to books 2 and three out of order, if that somehow happens to you, you might realize it with in the first chapter, but I continued anyway and still was a good book series 😃👍
