About this listen

In Eve Calder's Sugar and Vice, things are heating up at the Cookie House when star pastry chef and amateur sleuth Kate McGuire finds herself in the midst of a shocking murder mystery.

Out of the oven...

Lately, Kate has a lot on her dessert plate. She's launching a cookie-of-the-day challenge in the heart of Coral Cay, providing sweet treats for the reception of the town's handsome new veterinarian - not to mention dealing with tourists in town for a pirate festival and the surprise arrival of her former fiance, Evan, who seems determined to win her back.

And into the fire...

And if that's not enough, a skeleton has been found - in the backyard behind her best friend Maxi's floral shop. Kate knows Maxi could never hurt a fly. Maybe the remains belong to Sir George Bly, a long-dead pirate whose name has become urban legend - until now? It's time for Kate to use every trick in the recipe book to prove Maxi's innocence, and find the truth about the skeleton, before the last of the cookies crumble...

This book was full of action and fun! It makes you want to move there to enjoy the weather and the comradeship the people in the story share. Pirates are always fascinating and in this story they are looking for the pirate history in their area.

Book 2 is as good as the first if not better. I eagerly await the next in this series.

Entertaining Characters with a Murderous Twist

I discovered this series through one of the sales and I am hooked!! The writing is captivating and overall I really like the main characters in the book. It's interesting, fun, and a clean listen in my opinion. The main character is someone I'd want to be friends with. I love learning about the towns people and "getting to know them". Can't wait for more to come out!!

Loved everything about it

I enjoyed this cozy mystery almost from beginning to end. It was well narrated, and the writing flowed presenting pleasant characters that were not overwhelming in any obnoxious way. I actually was interested in who the victim was, and who the murderer was! My only disappointment was that there was no way to know the outcome. As it was revealed and unfolded, it was a bit too convoluted, and there was no way the reader would have guessed.
I am looking forward to the next book!

4.5 nicely put together

Great book! Love the characters, especially Kate, Maxi and Oliver. Good storyline - I did not see the end coming but it did make sense once I looked back and found the clues. Off to buy book 3!!

Even Better Than The First Book!

I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK, THE STORYLINE, AND THE CHARACTERS. KATE IS SUCH A PERFECT MIXTURE OF SOFTNESS AND STRENGTH. MAXI, THE VOICE OF REASON AND A GREAT FRIEND AND SLEUTHING PARTNER. BUT IT JUST WOULDN'T BE COMPLETE WITHOUT OLIVER. NOW, I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 3. I DO HOPE WE SEE A LOT MORE OF THE NEW VET.

LOVE THIS SERIES AND BOOK

I love this series! The characters are likable and interesting,. There is humor, friendship and an intriguing cozy mystery! Kate co-owns The Cookie House with Sam and is friends with Maxi who owns the flower shop next door. They both belong to a book club which adds additional wonderful characters. It is Pirate week in Coral Cay,FL and everyone is getting in the spirit. Kate and Maxi and Kate’s dog Oliver are digging a garden in the flower shop’s backyard when they discover bones. There are rumors that Gentleman George was a long ago local pirate and he is buried on the island along with some treasure. Could the bones be his? Plus Kate’s ex-Fiancé Evan shows up and wants her back. A new veterinarian moves to town. There is a lot going on to keep Kate and friends busy investigating! This is the 2nd book in the series and was just as awesome as the first book! Add these to your To Read pile! The audiobook is very well done and the narrator is the perfect voice for the characters.

Book 2 in the awesome Cookie House cozy series

These stories need a new reader. The narrator makes every character sound as if they are playing in a bouncy ball house all the time. Her emotional range is upbeat or upbeat. The narration detracts from the authentic humanness of the characters

Love the book - don't love the narration

Not necessarily a dislike, but I accidentally listened to books 2 and three out of order, if that somehow happens to you, you might realize it with in the first chapter, but I continued anyway and still was a good book series 😃👍

I hope there is more to come!
