I wasn't as impressed with Kenyon's first two books, Night Pleasures and Night Embrace. The narrator had a horrible, vapid Southern accent and I was annoyed with the couples in those books because of it.

However, Dance with the Devil was the turning point, since they switched to a male narrator and his performance was FAR more subdued and subtle. His performance brought the characters to life instead of taking away from them.

Plus, I love the anti-heroes and new characters being introduced. Kyrian and Julian just seem like one-dimensional godly hunks. Talon seemed more thought-out. But Zarek and Acheron are a delight because I prefer the darker side of a hero. Makes their looks seem more like an afterthought and who they are more essential and complicated. Gives them depth that makes the first two books seem far more shallow in comparison.

Each book shows adds more and more depth to Acheron that I'm skipping the rest to read Acheron, then coming back to resume the series. I know that will be my next favorite and I hate waiting when Kenyon wrote 20+ books in the series.
