About this listen

Zarek's Point of View:

Dark-Hunter: A soulless guardian who stands between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. Yeah, right. The only part of that Code of Honor I got was eternity and solitude.

Insanity: A condition many say I suffer from after being alone for so long. But I don't suffer from my insanity-I enjoy every minute of it.

Trust: I can't trust anyone...not even myself. The only thing I trust in is my ability to do the wrong thing in any situation and to hurt anyone who gets in my way.

Truth: I endured a lifetime as a Roman slave, and 900 years as an exiled Dark-Hunter. Now I'm tired of enduring. I want the truth about what happened the night I was exiled-I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Astrid (Greek, meaning star): An exceptional woman who can see straight to the truth. Brave and strong, she is a point of light in the darkness. She touches me and I tremble. She smiles and my cold heart shatters.

Zarek: They say even the most damned man can be forgiven. I never believed that until the night Astrid opened her door to me and made this feral beast want to be human again. Made me want to love and be loved. But how can an ex-slave whose soul is owned by a Greek goddess ever dream of touching, let alone holding, a fiery star?

What a hunk!

If you are looking for action with your romance Sherrilyn Kenyon never disappoints! This book does have a lot of action but a large majority of it takes place in a small cabin in the Alaskan wilderness. Zaric has had a very hard life. He has been a whipping boy, slave, and dark hunter in different phases of his life. He is very bitter and fear by all other people. I have always imagined his a wild animal. Like a panther that everyone fears because your not quite sure what it will do. This is Zaric. He just needs the right girl to open his emotions and let him see that he deserves love and can learn to love others again as well. I love this book, I read it many times and am now grateful to have it in my audio book collection as well.

My FAVE Sherrilyn Kenyon story thus far!

I wasn't as impressed with Kenyon's first two books, Night Pleasures and Night Embrace. The narrator had a horrible, vapid Southern accent and I was annoyed with the couples in those books because of it.

However, Dance with the Devil was the turning point, since they switched to a male narrator and his performance was FAR more subdued and subtle. His performance brought the characters to life instead of taking away from them.

Plus, I love the anti-heroes and new characters being introduced. Kyrian and Julian just seem like one-dimensional godly hunks. Talon seemed more thought-out. But Zarek and Acheron are a delight because I prefer the darker side of a hero. Makes their looks seem more like an afterthought and who they are more essential and complicated. Gives them depth that makes the first two books seem far more shallow in comparison.

Each book shows adds more and more depth to Acheron that I'm skipping the rest to read Acheron, then coming back to resume the series. I know that will be my next favorite and I hate waiting when Kenyon wrote 20+ books in the series.

love this narrator!

First of all the narrator is pure narrating gold! His voices are so on point that it makes the experience exciting and captivating.
The story is also really great and interesting and the characters, very vibrant.

I know it’s a typical romance novel as far as sex goes but I did find a lot of the sex scenes to be cringe worthy and not at all believable (yes I know typical).
Other than than I really did enjoy this book a lot though and finished in only a couple days.
Spoiler: “Nether-Lips” had me laughing for a good 20 minutes, so thanks for that.

Fantasy Romance

Where does Dance with the Devil rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

from 1-10 this one hits a solid 9

Who was your favorite character and why?

Seemie and because I love her childlike view of the world through her demonic eyes, innocent but deadly, hilarious and confusing but always entertaining.

What does Fred Berman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I liked the way he brought the characters to life, the inflection he placed in the voices of the characters was spot on, making me believe I was listening to individual personalities.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Seemie was hurt, calling Acheron when she called him her daddy.

Any additional comments?

Very good story line, strong and believable, good narrator kept me very interested in the story/plot

Any additional comments?

This was a really great book both heart wrenching and funny. I loved Shasha and Jess's rants which were TOO funny.
