Story
Lawyer Andy Carpenter's true passion is the Tara Foundation, the dog rescue organization he runs with his friend Willie Miller. All kinds of dogs make their way to the foundation, and it isn't that surprising to find a dog abandoned at the shelter one morning, though it was accompanied by a mysterious anonymous note. But they are quite surprised when they scan the dog's embedded chip, and discover that they know this dog. He is the "DNA dog".

Another great mystery by Rosenfelt, with a few twists you won't see coming. Love, love, love Grover Gardner as Andy - what a great pair. These mysteries make for great listens with teens on long car rides - just got home from a 10-hr drive and it was Andy who helped get me through it!

Who is THE NOWHERE MAN? He is spoken about only in whispers. He comes to those in greatest need of his protection. There is no enemy he cannot fight. He lives by his own code. He takes no prisoners. His name is Evan Smoak. Taken from a group home when he was young, Evan was raised and trained as an Orphan, an off-the-books black box program designed to create the perfect deniable intelligence asset: An assassin.

Great story - great narrator
Reviewed: 05-15-17
Hurwitz does not disappoint in his latest thriller. Lots of suspense and bloodshed, and really interesting characters. Scott Brick is expert at this stuff and I enjoyed all 12 hours of his delivery.
My only quibble with plot is Smoak is too perfect, accomplishes some crazy stuff that's highly improbable - but that's also why I like the book and character so much.
Well done!

Story
Meet Gerald. Gerald is a griffin - a creature with the body of a lion and the head of an eagle. According to the Code of the Griffins, that means he should be: 1. Brave and fierce in all situations! 2. A guardian of a great treasure! 3. Completely and totally hidden from the human realm! But what if a Griffin isn't brave or fierce? What if he's never found a great treasure (or any treasure, for that matter)? What if he feels like such an embarrassment that the only thing left to do is run away?

Story
With a compassionate realism and narrative sweep that recall the work of Charles Dickens, this magnificent novel captures all the cruelty and corruption, dignity and heroism, of India. The time is 1975. The place is an unnamed city by the sea. The government has just declared a State of Emergency, in whose upheavals four strangers—a spirited widow, a young student uprooted from his idyllic hill station, and two tailors who have fled the caste violence of their native village—will be thrust together, forced to share one cramped apartment and an uncertain future.

Not a great abridgement, but good narrator
Reviewed: 05-02-16
The narrator was very good, and while it is difficult to abridge such a long book down to 6 hours, it could have been done better - with bridging sentences in between sections where large cuts were made. Transitions were disjoined and clearly left out info that listener needed to know.
I found the story horribly depressing, with tiny bits of hope in these characters' lives that were soon squashed. Wish I could be more positive...

Story
In the heart of America, a metropolis is quietly destroying itself. Detroit, once the richest city in the nation, is now its poorest. Once the vanguard of America’s machine age - mass production, automobiles, and blue-collar jobs - Detroit is now America’s capital for unemployment, illiteracy, foreclosure, and dropouts. With the steel-eyed reportage that has become his trademark and the righteous indignation that only a native son can possess, journalist Charlie LeDuff sets out to uncover what has brought low this once-vibrant city, his city.

LeDuff delivers on the shocking goings-on of Detroit from the super-corrupt mayor to a super-corrupt judge to firemen who have to buy their own toilet paper because budgets are so mismanaged (ie, money pocketed by officials). Wish it was a tad more hopeful at the end, but it is what it is.
Narrator was good - think this is my first listen with him. But it would've been nice if some research had been done first to pronounce Detroit words correctly. Kil-PA-trick instead of KILL-patrick (who says that?). Mak-in-ack instead of Mack-in-aw Island. And the like.
Overall, quite good and mesmerizing.

Recommended. Strong writing, great narration, smart mysteries - I really enjoy this Mario Silva series, set in Brazil. Setting gives it some great "flavor!' - and it's hard to beat a great revenge novel. This quote says it well:
"Perfect Hatred is a perfect thriller. No one writes the cold glint of evil in bright sunlight the way Leighton Gage does. And there's enough evil here—and heroism, too—for three lesser books."

Great pysch thriller! Poor Toby's been dealt a bad hand, but when he gets out of prison for two murders he doesn't remember committing, he expects to be able to start anew. Sorry to say, that's not going to happen...not when another girl ends up dead in this tiny town in Germany, and everyone assumes he's the guilty party. Small town thinking and small town secrets play large in this thriller, and you really can't wait to get to the end. I love Robert Fass' narration, and he does a great job on this police procedural. I don't want to say more and spoil it for anyone . . . !

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, it's a good book to remind you to think about HOW you want to live and what kind of life you want to live. What do you want your legacy to be? Not preachy - though God is mentioned - more "inspiring." And there are exercises and meditations to do that are helpful, too. All in all, a great way to start the new year - or any day of the year.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
