Story
When the enslaved Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he decides to hide on nearby Jackson Island until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck Finn has faked his own death to escape his violent father, recently returned to town. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and too-often-unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

Interesting story from James’ perspective
Reviewed: 06-18-24
While the overall story remains fairly faithful to the concept of Huck Finn, James’ story is very different. Everett’s choice of which scenes to include and how James’ journey unfolds is worth listening to and considering. The story stands on its own merits and is just as compelling as if it were a stand alone and not a reimagining of Twain’s characters.

Story
Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can't control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter, and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

Story
After mother of five and former FBI profiler Andie Stern solved a murder—and unraveled a decades-old conspiracy—in her New Jersey town, both her husband and the West Windsor police hoped that she would set aside crime-fighting and go back to carpools, changing diapers, and lunches with her group of mom-friends, who she secretly calls The Cellulitists. Even so, Andie can’t help but get involved when the husband of Queen Bee Molly Goode is found dead. Though all signs point to natural causes, Andie begins to dig into the case and soon risks more than just the clique’s wrath.

Strong addition to series
Reviewed: 11-12-23
Andrea Stearn is becoming a more interesting person as are the cast of characters around her. Deeply flawed, yet likable, Andrea continues to solve mysteries & be a so/so mother/human. Hopefully she will continue to grow as a person as the series continues. Funny & well-paced; worth reading.

Not a Must Read
Reviewed: 09-05-23
The plot demands constant suspension of disbelief, which is never earned. The main character is hard to like or root for in any of the threads. If you loved VERA WONG by same author - this is definitely not that one.
There are some humorous moments and I stayed with it because I kept hoping it would come together & surprise me. Nope.

Story
Meet Rachel Walsh. She's been living it up in New York City, spending her nights talking her way into glamorous parties before heading home in the early hours to her hot boyfriend Luke. But her sensible older sister showing up and sending her off to actual rehab wasn't quite part of her plan. She's only agreed to her incarceration because she's heard that rehab is wall-to-wall jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going cold turkey - plus it's about time she had a holiday.
