About this listen

A special 25th anniversary edition narrated by the author.

Discover the deliciously dark and fantastically funny number one best seller about a woman living life rather too well and being whisked away from it all, from the number one best-selling author of Grown Ups.

'How did it end up like this? Twenty-seven, unemployed, mistaken for a drug addict, in a treatment centre in the back arse of nowhere with an empty Valium bottle in my knickers....'

Meet Rachel Walsh.

She's been living it up in New York City, spending her nights talking her way into glamorous parties before heading home in the early hours to her hot boyfriend, Luke.

But her sensible older sister showing up and sending her off to actual rehab wasn't quite part of her plan.

She's only agreed to her incarceration because she's heard that rehab is wall-to-wall Jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going cold turkey - plus it's about time she had a holiday.

Saying goodbye to fun will be hard. But not as hard as losing the man who she realises, all too late, might just be the love of her life....

Nice read.

Great narration. Story is good. Not an obsessive page turner but I looked forward to picking up where I left off.

Funny & Sad & Funny again

The story is as funny and frustrating as the MC, Rachel.

Recommended for romcom/romance & issues readers.

Listening to Marian read was even better than when I read the book myself.

The honesty and precision of the way Marian
Keyes can put her thoughts on to paper just keeps on amazing me. I soak up her thoughts as though I am the character. That is a true talent. Being Irish also helps, we have no problem making light of ourselves. But It was the subliminal way I received an insight into the world of addiction that was the takeaway prize of listening to “Rachel’s holiday”. Marians style of writing is like listening to your true friends talk openly about their dirty knickers or their lack of money. I loved the story, loved the author and loved her reading her own masterpiece . I highly recommend listening, even if you read it before, as I had!

Love the rawness of emotion

The story was so real. I’m glad there was a happy ending. Rachel deserved to find her way.

Funny, witty and heartfelt

Revolving around a common and sensitive subject of substance abuse, this clever book keeps you following the drama with expectation.
You’ll end up loving the characters with empathy going into overdrive.
The witty humour and one liners, let alone being read with the Irish accent made me want more.

Best psychotherapy ever!

I loved everything about this book! At once serious as well as hilariously funny, I haven't enjoyed a book this much in I don't remember how long. What a fabulous author and narrator - the two don't always go hand in hand - now Marion Keyes has become a favorite!

The author's portrayal of addiction and hope was artfully woven with humor along with the pain.

The author realistically portrayed experiences faced by those who love people with addictions without making the story a complete downer. The story was written with the right mix pain, humor, and hope to keep me reading.

Nola

I would love to see this as a movie as I had a hard time going back between past and present over so many chapters.
