Story
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Story
I was born when the world was a glorious place, but my parents were betrayed and murdered. I was raised by my sister in fear and poverty instead. That was merely the beginning. I lived through untold death and destruction when the old world was shattered, when creations turned against creators and a new evil rose to assert power. I fought back against the new order and broke humankind free from the shackles of terror that enslaved them. I discovered secrets beyond the lore of all other sorcerers, knowledge that ensures my people will not lack a shepherd on their long march through eternity.

I’m a big fan of Mitch Hogan and his Necromancer series , so I tried my hand on this one.
This is the prequel trilogy writing on another one that he wrote so I figure I’ll start here.
Only bad thing is I had to wait till the other books are written before I go to the other series.
what it about ?
It’s about a God emperor and an assassin who is hired to kill the Good Emperor and how they meet !
So the would be assassin is giving him an open window to bring up why he shouldn’t kill him !!
So this is the storytelling time where the God Emperor starts at a very young age in his story when he was called Zah.
It does go back-and-forth on the timeline from Zah to God Emperor good morning Joe doing well and you talk to me on speaker like the mattress in the present and little Zah in the past ..it’s like a coming of age story .
Like always, Mitch Hogan’s world building and his magic system is awesome. I never complain with his books because he is very creative!
I do need to apologize to him because he sent me the arc to Crucible of Lies over a year ago!!!
so when I realized never wrote a review on his, I felt bad I noticed that the audio finally came out and purchased it! Oh, by the way, the narrator was spot on for me. I loved it !!
And just finished listening to it and reading giving a 4.5 stars

Very grim tone revenge storyline very short in words! were it fully doesn’t get to or needs to get to my opinion , but at the same time it’s done in a different way where it keeps your interest going throughout the book!
It has shades of Red Wall meets magnificent seven. still wonder how this would be if it was a longer adaptation of the storyline!
