About this listen

They took his daughter, so Micah comes to take their kingdom.

Fifty thousand gun-toting paladins march behind him, all baptized in angel blood, thirsty to burn unbelievers. Only the janissaries can stand against them. Their living legend, Kevah, once beheaded a magus amid a hail of ice daggers. But ever since his wife disappeared, he spends his days in a haze of hashish and poetry.

To save the kingdom, Kevah must conquer his grief and become the legend he once was. But Micah writes his own legend in blood, and his righteous conquest will stop at nothing. When the gods choose sides, a legend will be etched upon the stars.

Game of Thrones meets Arabian Nights in this blood-soaked epic fantasy inspired by The Crusades, featuring Lovecraftian gods, mischievous djinns, and astral magic.

The story itself isn’t too bad, it wasn’t great, but I will probably finish the series. It was the narrator that was just awful. Maybe the story would’ve been better if someone else read it.

Pretty good, but terrible delivery

What a mystical and captivating world the author has created. I am eager to continue the story of God's, guns, guts, and glory. I will say that I hated the epilogue.

Was it all worth it?

Usually I just rate and move on but god dang this was a great book. I had no clue where it was going right up to the end. I wouldn’t say it subverted expectations but it certain had its fair share of red herrings and choice plot decisions that aren’t usually taken by writers.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not going to blow your mind but it’s absolutely a breath of fresh air.

Narration was fantastic also. A few words were pronounced in a way I’d never heard before but I can’t say if that is due to the regional dialect the narrator was trying to convey or whether I simply don’t know how things are properly pronounced across the globe. Haha.

Fantastic book. Fantastic narration. Can’t wait to dig in to the next one.

Wow what a trip!

Well written/told and performed. Healthy amount of predictability and unpredictability within the story. Paints a perspective for multiple characters, sometime recanting on personal opinions about certain characters.

Ready to read the Conquerors Blood

I am extremely skeptical of self published books in general. This was really fantastic though. To say that it is a crusade-inspired fantasy is to short-sell it. In the end, it is an exploration of fanaticism, and the fine line between good and evil.

And the narration was fantastic. I've rarely encountered a male narrator who can do male and female voices (and a bunch of different accents) so well.

Zamil Akhtar deserves some love. Great job, bro.

Worth the price of a credit and then some.

Highly recommend you read it. I’m completely sold on this series. Can’t wait for next installment.

Good stuff

Wonderful fantasy novel, audio version would be made stronger with multiple narrators. At times, it gets hard to follow the story due to all the differing POVs being in first person. Peter Noble was a delight to listen to.

Great story
