Story
Casey Fletcher, a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press, has retreated to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing—a tech innovator, Tom is powerful; and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous.

Having seen the mixed reviews I was hesitant. I'm very glad I didn't take the negative comments to heart because I was pleasantly surprised that this book hit well on many levels...the characters, the atmospheric mood, the compelling pace and the suspenseful story. My favorite part was the unique and original plot twists that I never saw coming.
Will definitely read more RS. Highly recommend!

Story
Marilyn Monroe, born to deprivation and a series of foster homes, became an acting legend of the 20th century. She married famous men, Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller, and her many lovers included President John F. Kennedy. Her death, at 36, is a mystery that remains unsolved to this day. Anthony Summers interviewed 600 people for this book, which reveals unknown truths, some funny, some very sad, about this brilliant but troubled woman. First to gain access to the files of Monroe's last psychiatrist, he throws light on Monroe's troubled psyche.

Candle in the Wind

The quintessential biography of one of the most beautifully angelic, talented and complex women to have ever lived. Probably the most comprehensive and stimulating biographies I've ever read.
Her paradoxical life appears very much a reflection of her twin persona, born under the Gemini zodiac. A walking contradiction with a dichotomous mind. Playfully joyful and childlike, yet sad, troubled and unstable. Seductively addictive who could "play the naive sex symbol", yet deeply cerebral and highly intelligent. Universally loved by many, yet lived a solitary and lonely existence, never having learned to love herself.
She loved others unconditionally, but could never find another to love her truly for who she was. Inspirationally beautiful but devastatingly tragic life. She deserved so much more than what she received in her brief but incandescent life. RIP MM

But should we?

Blake is an “automatic author” for me, meaning whatever he writes I will automatically read no questions asked.
I can see M. Crichton’s influence in all of BC’s writings, especially this one. This dystopic look at the dark dehumanizing side of technology and how we allow it to take us over. Crouch never misses. Incredibly intriguing, edge of your seat techno-thriller that he is a master of. Yes, humans are certainly capable of creating such advanced technology described in this story… but should we?

It was a world of airships and alchemy; clockwork carnivals; pirates; lost cities; a rigid Watchmaker who controlled every aspect of life; and his nemesis, the ruthless and violent Anarchist, who wanted to destroy it all. Anderson and Peart have returned to their colourful creation to explore the places and the characters that still have a hold on their imaginations.

A charming collection of simple but poignant individual life stories. I really appreciated the Canterbury story structure-13 stories in 1 making us all think of how we can live our own lives to the fullest. I like the quote, “We are secrets to each other. Each one’s life a novel no one else has read”

Story
A love story serves as backdrop for The Map of the Sky when New York socialite Emma Harlow agrees to marry millionaire Montgomery Gilmore, but only if he accepts her audacious challenge: to reproduce the extraterrestrial invasion featured in Wells's War of the Worlds. What follows are three brilliantly interconnected plots to create a breathtaking tale of time travel and mystery, replete with cameos by a young Edgar Allan Poe, and Captain Shackleton and Charles Winslow from The Map of Time.

His storytelling is phenomenal. One of the great time travel stories. Looking forward to the finale in the trilogy

Twelve-year-old Douglas Spaulding knows Green Town, Illinois, is as vast and deep as the whole wide world that lies beyond the city limits. It is a pair of brand-new tennis shoes, the first harvest of dandelions for Grandfather's renowned intoxicant, the distant clang of the trolley's bell on a hazy afternoon. It is yesteryear and tomorrow blended into an unforgettable always. But as young Douglas is about to discover, summer can be more than the repetition of established rituals whose mystical power holds time at bay.

Now, with the entire city corrupted - from the people to the very buildings they inhabit---only the most wretched sort of existence remains. The stakes are raised when Tanner Mirabel's search brings him face to face with a centuries-old atrocity that history would rather forget.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.
