About this listen

A binge-worthy locked-room thriller about family, trust, and survival from the acclaimed author of the “utterly thrilling” (Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author) First Born.

When Caz steps onboard the exclusive cruise liner RMS Atlantica, it’s the start of a vacation of a lifetime with her new love, Pete. On their first night they explore the ship, eat, dance, make friends, but when Caz wakes the next morning, Pete is missing.

And when she walks out into the corridor, all the cabin doors are open. To her horror, she soon realizes that the ship is completely empty. No passengers, no crew, nobody but her. The Atlantica is steaming into the mid-Atlantic and Caz is the only person on board. But that’s just the beginning of the terrifying journey she finds herself trapped on in this white-knuckled mystery.

this book kept my attention!

I thought this book was fast paced and I looked forward to listening the next time! there were a few eery parts that I enjoyed and the whole thought process is cool. the ending is my least favorite. the story as a whole is a bit far fetched, but thay doesn't bother me, I am reading fiction after all. But the ending is VERY far fetched. but don't let that deter you! the story is a good one!

Slow Burn…??

I’ve seen other people say this is a slow burn and I agree! There were times when it wasn’t fast paced or I felt it was really unbelievable, like not realistic at all. But it is fiction. There was one character who really annoyed me, but I guess that’s good writing! I enjoyed the main character a lot. I like that he also used a middle-aged woman for this adventure. Some parts I thought were predictable, but the ending was messed up! Good book, overall.

Compelling

This is a story that stretches the bounds of believability. I got fairly convinced with the concept and the character development. But my level of disbelief hit an obstacle when I considered the needs of the kenneled dogs on board the ill fated cruise liner. Did they not require water? Wouldn’t that water source be available to the desperate participants in their fight for survival? I couldn’t get past that one overlooked detail.

Felt like passenger #6

Like the passengers, I stayed in the game, believing that the reader would be rewarded in the end. If the author's intent was to make his readers experience the misery of the passengers as well as the grossly insufficient hope of a decent reason to continue, then he hooked me. My brain felt abused by the time it ended.

a book that went from thrilling to irritating.

will Dean has a very good grasp of suspense and how to set a tone and setting that had my teeth clenched. the idea of being on an abandoned ship in the middle of the ocean is so unsettling that it legit gave me bad dreams. however, as it went on and more and more twists happened, it rapidly started to become more frustrating than enjoyable. the ending was the final nail in the coffin of this being more of a three than a four. still, a good time overall.

Almost a DNF

This book was slow and I did not like the characters. I stayed with it because another reviewer said there was an amazing twist at the end. The “twist” was not worth the time spent on this book.
