Story
Raised in a mob-controlled suburb of Chicago, Sidney Heard grew up wanting to be a gangster. He was on probation by the age of 13 and continued building his criminal resume over the next half a century. He was a professional arsonist for nearly 20 years, escaped from jail twice, and ran a gold scandal grossing over a quarter of a million dollars, and that’s just to name a few of his illegal escapades. To top it off, he played a role in one of the most important Supreme Court decisions of all time (Gideon v. Wainwright).

Great story. Humorous narration
Reviewed: 01-20-19
Very interesting bio of a unique man and life. But I think this narrator is the worst I’ve heard. Mispronunciations of common words abound, and his halting, inconsistent pace was crazy. BUT...after awhile it got to be hilarious and I enjoyed the story while laughing.

The Jewish Audio Bible is a masterful delivery of the Kol Menachem Chumash (Gutnick Edition) - a much loved, best-selling translation of the Five Books of Moses, with readings from the Prophets (Haftarah cycle). The Jewish Audio Bible skillfully weaves classic Rabbinic interpretations into the translation, offering a timeless perception of the sacred text's multiple layers.

What made the experience of listening to The Jewish Audio Bible the most enjoyable?
I was able to hear the closest modern English translation of the original Hebrew, with the correct pronunciations of names, cities and events. It's not like it varies tremendously from the "standard" bible. But it adds another layer that just doesn't come out in a traditional protestant or Catholic bible. If you really want to hear the true bible that is often called the Old Testament, get the Jewish Audio Bible. You will not regret it.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Definitely. Reading Judges in the bible can be a real emotional roller coaster... Things are good, bad, good, bad..more bad, and more bad. You want to bang your head against a wall. But Keller takes this book and brings it to life, puts it all together, and gives a much more broad and thought provoking view of this book. It makes sense to me now.

Story
Explore the power of the underdog in Malcolm Gladwell's dazzling examination of success, motivation, and the role of adversity in shaping our lives, from the best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a stone and a sling, and ever since then the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. David's victory was improbable and miraculous. He shouldn't have won. Or should he have?

What did you like best about this story?
The author takes a historical event that we have heard from one viewpoint, emphasis and conclusion - and overturns it without taking away from the overall spiritual aspect of story. Really masterful.

Story
As it was in Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary, and Othello, so it is in life. Most forms of private vice and public evil are kindled and sustained by lies. Acts of adultery and other personal betrayals, financial fraud, government corruption - even murder and genocide - generally require an additional moral defect: a willingness to lie. In Lying, bestselling author and neuroscientist Sam Harris argues that we can radically simplify our lives and improve society by merely telling the truth in situations where others often lie.

Where does Lying rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Very interesting read. I am a Christian and I am interested in learning about viewpoints that differ from mine. I thought this might be an "attack on religion" book. But I found it to be very well written and I was challenged with some very thought provoking ideas. And Sam Harris packs a lot into a relatively short work.

Story
He should have seen it coming. Anonymous letters are rarely good. On the day after preaching a sermon at his church, Rob Shepherd opened a letter filled with hurtful words and a very strong opinion about how awful his sermon was. On his fourth reading of the letter, Rob heard a still small voice say, "Even if you preached the perfect sermon somebody would crucify it." That thought began the process of setting Rob free from being a lifelong people pleaser.

The author does a great job reminding us about human nature and that we live in an imperfect world. A wake up call to rid ourselves of being overly self critical and putting too much emphasis on how others view us. Definitely worth the money and the time.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book brings to life an aspect of the birth of Christ that isn't discussed much - what Mary went through in a personal sense, her perspective.
What other book might you compare Unafraid: Mary to and why?
The others by Francine Rivers on Rahab, Ruth, etc. Same great quality.
What does Barbara Rosenblat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her tone of voice and inflection brings energy and life to the story. Turns a biography into a much more real-life feel.

Too long and detailed
Reviewed: 05-26-14
What disappointed you about The Edge of Evolution?
It was too long and detailed for lay readers. It ought to be advertised as a book for scholars and those who want to get way down into the weeds of molecular biology.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
If you want to join post grad students and scientists in extremely detailed aspects of the subject, this is the book for you. For me, I was looking for a broader view of the subject and this book was disappointing in that sense.

Great story BUT consider the Narrator
Reviewed: 05-24-14
What did you love best about Disciple?
The story is great, I have to give it high marks for that.... presents a sense of being in the real world in first century Palestine. Love the book. I bought the others in the series.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The woman who narrates has a high voice and her impressions of male voices is really bad. And in a story set in first century Palestine there are a lot of males! So consider that...BUT I am still glad I have the book. It was worth it because the writing is terrific.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, it's rather long so it wouldn't be practical.

VERY LOOOOONG INTRODUCTORY CHAPTERS
Reviewed: 11-13-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The author could have markedly shortened his personal background. It should have been no more than one chapter instead of the first five.
What was most disappointing about Eric C. Wheeler’s story?
It is not until Chapter 6 that the author starts talking about actual interactions with people as the title implies. So much of this book is more a discussion of himself and his thoughts and opinions as opposed to what he actually did.
What three words best describe Josh Kilbourne’s voice?
Not very rich
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from In His Service?
Almost all of the first 5 chapters so he would get into his actual "service, as the title implies.
Any additional comments?
Very disappointed with this book. I was hoping for so much more.
