Unexpected series that I can't stop listening to
Reviewed: 07-21-23
I am a fan of cozy British mysteries and historical crime fiction as well as Agatha Christie's Poirot- this has a little dash of all three with plot twists, interesting characters and charm anchored by Mrs. Pollifax brought to life by stunning narration.

Story
Kitty Underhay is looking forward to a week of long lunches and wedding planning with her husband-to-be, Captain Matthew Bryant. But the plan is derailed when he is called on to collect a former comrade-in-arms, arriving on the 15:50 from Paddington. As the train bearing Simon Travers pulls up to the platform, a piercing scream rises over the screech of its brakes. Travers is dead in his seat, a dagger in his heart. Only a few individuals had access to Travers’s compartment, and Kitty must find out which of these seemingly benign passengers is, in fact, a cross-country killer.

Appreciate the descriptions and plots for a light listen. Love Karen (if we can't have Alex) narrating, but have to continually remind myself which series I am listening to!

Struggled with new narrator
Reviewed: 03-13-23
If I had not already listened to the six previous books, I may not have continued. Narrator is excellent, just not for this series. Kitty should be approachable and sweet with a hint of sass. One of the best plots in the series, but narrator change was distracting.

Robotic Narration ruined story
Reviewed: 03-31-22
I really wanted to like this book as it had all the components I love - mystery, history and cultural legend, but the narration was inpalitable. Awkward, emotionless and uncomfortable. I also did not appreciate attempted sexual assault being treated so lightly. May try the printed version or pray it is re-recorded by someone who understands the spoken word.

Slow start, but now one if my favorite series!
Reviewed: 01-09-22
Took me a while to warm up to the narrator as she is a bit stilted when speaking in 1st person, but her accents and voices are excellent and truly bring book to life. story is more complex than a regular cozy mystery. Books 4 and 5 are my favorite, but series builds, so I recommend reading them in order.

If you are looking for gritty, action-packed mystery, then keep swiping, but if you would like a light, vacation read, then this is a good option. The story was paced well enough to keep your interest and descriptions painted a picture of the endearing characters' world. Narration was excellent. Looking forward to the next book!
