Story
To survive the notorious prison IK-2 and assassinate Russian President Vladimir Petrov, John Dempsey had to become rosomakha, the wolverine. Now, back home in America, he’s trying to put the pieces of his life at Ember back together. But which man returned from Russia—Dempsey, or the wolverine? From the way his teammates look at him, it’s obvious they’re not sure, and neither is he. Meanwhile, Vice President Kelso Jarvis has barely had time to mourn the death of his mentor before a devastating attack reveals a new threat.

I love the series, but you’ve got to stop with the HooRahs. We do not say Hoorah all the time.
Terrific series, though!

Story
Like the men whose epic stories Jon Krakauer has told in his previous bestsellers, Pat Tillman was an irrepressible individualist and iconoclast. In May 2002, Tillman walked away from his $3.6 million NFL contract to enlist in the United States Army. He was deeply troubled by 9/11, and he felt a strong moral obligation to join the fight against al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Two years later, he died on a desolate hillside in southeastern Afghanistan.

I’ve got a lot of studying to do in fact checking this book. It would be heartbreaking without all the government’s disturbing behavior after Pat‘s death. They just made it so much worse.
Great writing, loved the history lessons mixed throughout the book.

A soldier, former member of Congress, and a presidential candidate, Tulsi loves her country: "I answered the call of duty and took an oath, dedicating my life to supporting and defending those freedoms, both in uniform and in public office. I became a Democrat when I ran for office because I saw them as a party that stood up for the little guy and against the interests of big business and warmongers. I remained a Democrat for twenty years, albeit with an independent streak." Today that party is unrecognizable.

I love many things about Jack Carr’s writing. I could mention his character development, suspense, descriptions so well I have a clear picture of each scene, etc…but the thing that stood out the most this time is the desire to research that stirs inside of me as I listen to each chapter. Reading each book I’ve found myself looking things up and appreciate the “fact from fiction” author’s note at the end of the last couple.
The one thing I was hoping most was pure fiction, I’m now disgusted learning more about it. How did I not know this and what on earth kind of people can make these decisions.
(vagueness is intentional to not be a spoiler, but it will be obvious once you listen to/read). Thank you, Jack, for bringing light to this issue. I will be following you to see if people reach out and the information you gather.
It’s such weird feeling to be both deeply proud & thankful to be an American, yet so very disgusted with our politicians over and over again.
THANK YOU to all who SERVE and @&-$?!!!!!! to the damn decision makers!

Incredible!
Reviewed: 03-25-22
I listen to a lot of military books, and most of the time I hear, “redacted,” over and over throughout them.
I can’t believe Dakota was “allowed” to publish his story without the government censorship that so many others have. His experience needed to be told! Only through speaking out and having our veterans HEARD, can true accountability that leads to CHANGE occur.
Thank you, Dakota, speaking out. You’ll never know if/how many lives have been and will be saved due to change in procedures stemming from your story.
Bing West did an excellent job of telling Dakota’s experience with such description that I had a vivid picture in my head.
Zach McLarty was a terrific narrator. I usually don’t like audio books read by someone other than the author if I’ve heard the author speak (or listened to him on many podcasts), but a chapter into the book I forgot that it wasn’t Dakota telling the story.
Great job all around!
THANK YOU!!!
