About this listen

With the walls closing in, Navy SEAL sniper James Reece is on a race to dismantle a conspiracy that has forced America to her knees in the latest high-octane thriller that seems ripped from the headlines from the “hottest author on the thriller scene today” (The Real Book Spy), #1 New York Times bestseller Jack Carr.

You think you know James Reece. Think again.

A storm is on the horizon. America’s days are numbered. A Chinese submarine has gone rogue and is navigating towards the continental United States, putting its nuclear missiles within striking distance of the West Coast.

A rising Silicon Valley tech mogul with unknown allegiances is at the forefront of a revolution in quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence.

A politician controlled by a foreign power is a breath away from the Oval Office.

Three seemingly disconnected events are on a collision course to ignite a power grab unlike anything the world has ever seen.

The country’s only hope is a quantum computer that has gone dark, retreating to the deepest levels of the internet, learning at a rate inconceivable at her inception. But during her time in hiding, she has done more than learn. She has become a weapon. She is now positioned to act as either the country’s greatest savior or its worst enemy. She is known as “Alice” and her only connection to the outside world is to a former Navy SEAL sniper named James Reece who has left the violence of his past life behind.

Will there be blood?

Count on it!

Will the forces that threaten to destroy the United States be enough to light the fuse of Reece’s resurrection? From “master novelist” (Ballistic magazine) Jack Carr comes his most intense thriller to date, pressing “emotional buttons that other writers wouldn’t dare explore” (The Real Book Spy).

Once again Jack Carr has demonstrated that he is a brilliant storyteller! This book begins with a Chinese Naval Officer making plans to bomb the US with a nuclear weapon. A Chinese government’s top official contacts the US and provides vague details about a rogue officer who plans to bomb Hawaii but not with a nuclear weapon. They say he wants to start a the US to start a war. It’s all lies.

Meanwhile back on the farm Reece’s home comes under attack. His fiancée is shot. Although she was wearing a vest, the bulletproof’s ceramic shatters and causes her even more damage. But it did save her life. Reece vows to kill everyone responsible for this attack. The CIA had been trying to get him to come back and he had been ready to leave the agency for good and make a home with Katie.
While all this is going on Reece is having visions of his deceased wife and daughter. They keep appearing and telling him how much they love him. He can’t decide if they’re giving him their blessing or trying to warn him that Katie will end up just like them if he continues with his plans to make a life with her.
The Chinese government wants to offer Reece sanctuary with them to keep him and the AI Alice who has modeled itself after him. Their plan is to kill him if he refuses
This book is EXPLOSIVE!!!! To say the least!

Ray Porter does a phenomenal job narrating. He IS the voice of James Reece and I don’t think any other narrator could do this character justice.
This book has my VERY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!

Thank You.

Carr’s writing is fast, tense and UNPUTDOWNABLE!!!

We love the beginning chapters related to California, and the crooked politicians which we know are real. The remainder of the book was total Jack Carr, which we will listen to time and time again.

Book 7 was a little different. I am not a history buff or even an armed forces buff. Probably watched the Terminal List because of Chris Pratt. none the less, the object is to tell a good story and suck the reader in to become invested. These books including #7 are just really GOOD books telling a really good story. Wonder if there will be a book 8? The only thing I wanted to see was for James to tell Vick to stick it... he never put his behind in danger. At least Raife got a dig or 2 in at the end. Mr Carr thanks for keeping me engrossed in a military story that kept my attention till the very end. P Cable

It amazes me that Jack Carr can continue to develop characters and keep them fresh after so many books. The pace of the story is fantastic, keeps you listening for hours. I also love the tidbits of history thrown in and his epilogue is very entertaining.

Fantastic pace and narration

I love this series. This entry was great, but I found the antagonists slightly less interesting than in the previous James Reece novels. It was still a great listen and I look forward to the next book!
