Good for business, good for family, good for life. Understanding the nonverbal messages someone is telegraphing can be the determining factor in difficult conversations.

Like money and time management, why we don't teach kids how to psychologically steel themselves against cons is beyond me. I found the content cogent and the author's performance articulate.

Finally, this book lays out the facts like
Sherlock's murder boards, so anyone who spends enough time reading it can figure out the villians.

There's a sentient human inside Hayden after all

My only prior knowledge about Hayden came from the Snowden information which left me wondering if Hayden has any humanity left in him. He is not Darth Vader or perhaps he is now redeemed by a far worse internal enemy: Trump. His words give me faith that the horrors of the IC post-9/11 were commensurate with the time, not a reflection of evolution in the IC. Or maybe he is just a phenomenal com-agent persuasively winning the likes of me over. But I end the book feeling some hope that wasn't previously there.

Third time listening to it and I'm still getting more each time. I especially appreciate how women are (finally) holding key positions and rolls that aren't just figureheads or totems or lesbians (though that's normalized too). Despite the political and cultural upheaval happening throughout the series, strength of character is what carries the day.

One of the best syntheses of the layered issues and complexity that tech introduces to policy making. I hope every elected out there reads or listens to this.

Given the consistent history of Richard Clark's predictions coming true, I hope the next President and all his/her key advisors read this as a manual to be followed step-by-step. The citizens of this country should not have to take another Anthem data breach to prove that cyberwar is asymmetric and we don't want to be on the loosing end of that conflict.

I love it when background reading persuades me to see things in a new light. Bravo! To illustrate John Poindexter's humanity is quite an accomplishment. The character of him as the consummate warrior falling on the sword for his commander is officially replaced in my mind.

Per the author's end note: "The best production was the one jus heard". Too bad the movie didn't capture as much of this book as he thought it would at the time of recording. It's a gem.

If you could sum up The Signal and the Noise in three words, what would they be?

demystifying predictions

What other book might you compare The Signal and the Noise to and why?

As far as I know, this book is one-of-a-kind. Nate Silver lets the sunshine in, exposing politico fakery while elevating prediction to a rigorous and transparent level.
