Started off fun with the meet cute but quickly devolved into overly complicated "problems" that were not really problems at all. All of the so-called twists were completely predictable and all of the secrets/problems could have been easily resolved with conversations.

STORY: Overall, I liked the plot; pretty typical for a romance. It's nice to have POC representation and important conversations about racism in a story about hockey.
NARRATION: largely enjoyed the narration and her ability to use different voices with one exception-the voice of her brother sounded like she had her teeth clenched for everything that he said. Maybe she had trouble creating a second distinct male voice but it was very irritating because it made it sound like the brother was pissed all the time and it distorted some of what he said.

I think if I had been reading the book I would have become frustrated by the way Oscar's thoughts jump around. The narrator, however, is great; he really seems to get Oscar and conveys his frustrations, anxiety, doubts and feelings so well. The book is laugh-out-loud funny and the sex is hot. The relationship between Oscar and Jack is a little unusual and the road to the end is full of real and imagined obstacles but kind of beautiful. Kris' depiction of Oscar's anxiety is on point and both hilarious and sensitive to his genuine struggles. I loved the hate project.

The story is a typical enemies to lovers romcom. It's fun to listen to some of the antics but really difficult to relate to Jesse's reasons for hating Drew; it seems like an extreme response. What bothers me about the audio book, however, is Jason Keller's performance. He does not seem to understand Drew's demeanor and character with some over the top acting. The female narrator does a nice job.

I was very distracted by the performance of Bernadette Dunne. I have listened to many of the audio books in the Meg Langslow series and this sounds nothing like the other recordings. Other than an attempt to create a voice for Rob, she does not use the distinctive voices that she has created for the regular characters in the other audio books. It makes me wonder if this really is Bernadette Dunne. I have come to enjoy many of the voices BD has created for the regulars, her comic timing, clear expressions of sarcasm and skepticism, and more. This performance is so different that it was just a distraction.
