About this listen

Amrit Kaur (The Sex Lives of College Girls) delivers a stellar performance in a brand-new enemies-to-lovers hockey romance by Sonya Lalli, the acclaimed author of The Matchmaker’s List and A Holly Jolly Diwali.

Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?).

Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder. Devin is yet another arrogant hockey bro—and admitted total babe—who is fresh off a scandalous break-up with a global pop-star. But she soon finds the ice melts between them, and they share an unexpected chemistry. As Ash wrestles with her family’s demands, her brother’s career and her feelings for Devin, will she find a way to take a risk and make her own luck? Or will she puck this up?

This captivating Audible Original is an essential listen for fans of sports romance, strong heroines, sizzling chemistry and the diversity within the hockey community.

Felt more like a young adult book

The main character first came off as a “I know what’s best for everyone but myself” person. She pretty much was giving relationship advice to others, but she had only been in 1 relationship herself. I mean it makes since if she was younger, but she’s a 30 year old adult! It just felt more like a teenager or early 20s something character.
The narrators male voices were bad, it was either the men sounds like they had clinched teeth or plugging their nose. Her female voices were good. Overall the book is a good filler of you don’t have anything else to listen to.

A great new beginnings story with a strong female lead

This was an excellent delve into the growth of the a main character who sets about making herself a priority in her own life. Solid supporting cast of characters as well.

Anyone So Superstitious Is Mentally Weak

If the main character's brother is so superstitious that he believes a person can be a good luck charm, he isn't mentally tough enough to be in professional sports. It's simple, the main character needs to quit being a door mat.

Lovable characters, interesting window into Desi culture

Ash, the main character, is impossible not to like, at least for me. I often spend the books wanting to strangle the main character, but I found her struggles and faults understandable; she’s intelligent, mature, and caring, and the other characters are likable or at least appalling but believable. I do feel frustrated with the formula that introduces the male love interest as misogynistic, demeaning toward the main character, because IRL that’s a fantastic way to end up with a pig. Love the personal growth and enjoyed having a window into 2nd Gen Desi-Canadian culture. The narrator reads beautifully with the exception of a few male characters (who she seems to read by clenching her teeth); she reads Devon well, and especially Ash’s mom.

thoroughly enjoyed this with one exception

would have been so much better if a male narrator did the male parts....the part of Jus was like listening to someone with a mouth full of marbles....or clenched teeth.

Fun story about stepping into your power

Enjoyable storyline with just enough romance and family drama to keep things deep. My one massive dislike is how she voices Jas, the brother. It’s like she’s talking without moving her jaw??? There had to be a better way to make him sound distinct because that voice was … terrible.
