Story
Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

Story
Ghosts don't exist in our world of today. Life is too pragmatic, too consuming, too busy for past lives to linger on longer than their allotted time, or so Halcyon had believed, until she received a letter from a lawyer claiming that her mother, whom she had thought long dead, had actually been living in another part of the country since Halcyon's early childhood. She had only recently passed away, leaving Halcyon heir to an unexpected fortune and an estate on an isolated island in the middle of the Great Lakes.

Story
When Eleanor Harper becomes the director of a renowned artists' retreat, she knows nothing of Cliffside Manor's dark past as a tuberculosis sanatorium, a "waiting room for death". After years of covering murder and violence as a crime reporter, Eleanor hopes that being around artists and writers in this new job will be a peaceful retreat for her as much as for them.

I was at first disappointed with the main character...she was too similar to all the other main characters in Webbs books. many similar phrases...'mullioned windows', 'hands shaking', electricity upon touching another character, then the setting...always in an enormous mansion with hundreds of acres.
BUT this story had so many twists and turns, I had to hold on to my hat! such a great plot and a gripping tale. A great read!

Story
In Metsan Valo, her family home on Lake Superior, Anni Halla’s beloved grandmother has died. Among her fond memories, what Anni remembers most vividly is her grandmother’s eerie yet enchanting storytelling. By firelight she spun tall tales of spirits in the nearby forest and waters who could heal - or harm - on a whim. But of course those were only stories.

Action is too dragged out
Reviewed: 06-23-21
Not the best for Dean Koontz....characters are irritating with their incompetence and action is dragged out with retelling of each character. I'd rate this as a 2 out of 5.

Bizarre, Hard to follow, too far "out there"
Reviewed: 10-07-20
Main character is hard to believe...too fragile and vulnerable...lost in her bizarre world of critters who have no point...rape is trivialize and the repetition is minimalizing. The ability to escape one's skin is not only unbelievable, but silly at best.
