I have listened to more than 800 audiobooks and this is the worst. I can’t even begin to describe how bad and boring this book was. Spoiler alert the last 30 plus minutes is about farming hay.

The main character would put a navy seal to shame. The dialogue is so stiff. Nobody actually talks like that. The narrator makes every male character sound like an old geezer. The kids sound like whiny brats and I can’t even describe what the women sound like.

I’m not a religious person and thought this would be the least interesting book in the series but I was wrong. Great story that kept me guessing what was going to happen next.

Story
In 1985, Charles Ng and Leonard Lake were spotted shoplifting. Ng escaped, but Lake's capture led police to a concrete bunker in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where they discovered the grisly evidence of an orgy of sex crimes, torture, and murder that claimed at least 16 victims. Lake committed suicide: Ng fled to Canada, where he was tracked down and extradited to California. This 14-year, $10 million legal case was the costliest and longest criminal prosecution in California history.

A well written and detailed account of a series of horrific crimes. I will definitely look into other books from Dan Lasseter. The narration was excellent.

At 24 years of age, U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell was named commander of a forty-man elite infantry platoon - a unit that came to be known as the Outlaws - and was tasked with rooting out Pakistan-based insurgents from a mountain valley along Afghanistan's eastern frontier. Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

I listen to audiobooks on my nightly walks and I walked more miles because I could not stop listening.
I have a son that is in ROTC and will be serving our country in a year from now and this book will help me prepare for his service and how I can help him cope with the experiences he will encounter. I hope my son will read this book to learn from one of the best lieutenants in the army.
I give thanks to all who serve and protect our country.
Ray Porter’s narration is one of the best.

He messes up says, “god damnit”, then leaves it in. Funniest thing I ever listened too.
Overall the book was mostly reiterating the same thing. It could have been shorter or worded better to save on space. I understand that they want it to be more casual, but it just doesn’t seem to work.
