Story
Laurie Holcombe is out of a job, out of luck, and out of time. When a prestigious law firm hires her as an assistant to one of its senior partners, it feels like she might finally get back on her feet. All she has to do is put up with the whims of her infuriatingly icy boss, Diana. How hard could that be? Diana Parker is Atlanta's top lawyer and isn't afraid to let everyone know it. She's driven, ruthless, demanding, and stuck in a failing marriage. Too bad she can't run her personal life as well as she runs her ordered office.

Also, Abby Craden is the narrator so win/win! Incredible work, Jen! Thank you :)

This book didn’t require a credit, so I feel like I really scored discovering it! Little slow of a start but it roped me in pretty quickly. Tip: Envision from the start the character Anna as a Helen Mirren type and Jess as a Zoe Saldana! lol It was a beautifully presented story with a happy ending!

I really enjoyed this one overall. I am from one of the towns frequently referenced throughout the book whose name was butchered, but other than that I thought it was a decent representation in terms of the cultural aspects. :) I appreciate that they didn’t attempt a crazy Cajun accent or I would have had to abort. Lol

Captain Sabine Fleischer is a skilled and dedicated US Army surgeon deployed to a combat hospital in Afghanistan. She is also one of the thousands of troops who are forced to serve in silence because of the military's anti-gay policy of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT)". Usually driven and focused, Sabine finds that battles raging both inside and outside are making it more and more difficult for her to deal with her emotions. Dealing with loss and mortality, lack of privacy, sleep deprivation, loneliness, and the isolation forced on her by Don't Ask, Don't Tell are all taking their toll.

It’s a compelling storyline, and ultimately worthwhile, but I feel the initial “slow burn” element of it was unnecessarily protracted. There could have been more time focused on their experiences after having finally connected, vs. all the build-up.
