Anthony Horowitz is easily becoming my favorite male author. I just finished watching Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders after reading those two books (and hoping for more in that series) and then decided I just had to get this series and listen to them. I was not disappointed with this first one and can't wait to get to the others!

Good clean murder mystery/ Romance
Reviewed: 08-12-24
I have enjoyed every book so far, but (what is this?) three, four books in, and they kind of all run together, because it's basically the same story.
And I did not enjoy the narrator as much on this one, as the other books, either.
I do get tired of the on again off again, so now that he's actually proposed maybe we can get all that out of the way. Oops... spoiler alert! Like you didn't see that coming... Really?!

Story
Nantucket Police Chief Meredith Folger is acutely conscious of the stress COVID-19 has placed on the community she loves. Although the island has proved a refuge for many during the pandemic, the cost to Nantucket has been high. Merry hopes that the Christmas Stroll, one of Nantucket's favorite traditions, in which Main Street is transformed into a winter wonderland, will lift the island's spirits. But the arrival of a large-scale TV production, and the Secretary of State and her family, complicates matters significantly.

Get on with it already!

I have loved this whole series, but this one is irritating the heck out of me. I'm 13 chapters in and still no murder. She keeps droning on and on about this crazy bird woman living in a house on Nantucket with no utilities. And then the juxtaposition of the rich Hollywood people, in the fancy house, with all their moods and weirdities. Well, the bird woman doesn't care, because she's happy taking pictures of her birds, and I don't need to know what kind of camera she used or film or whatever!
Please get on with the murder, and the solving of it.
Okay so I finished the book and I'm still irritated with this one. She moved on to the crazy Covid BS, (so obviously she has drank the Kool-Aid). Not only did she do that, but she magnified it by killing off her favorite grandfather in the series. Apparently she actually thinks that getting the Covid jab will keep you from getting Covid (which it doesn't). And she thinks that wearing a mask will also keep you from getting Covid, (which anybody with any sense knows it doesn't) so I really have no respect for this author anymore. Which is too bad since I really love Nantucket Island and stories that are set there.

The third book in the recently revamped Nantucket mystery series. When two children make a grisly discovery on Sconset beach, Detective Meredith Folger finds herself with a perplexing case on her hands. The crime lab can tell her only that the newly unearthed skeletal remains belonged to a woman who was strangled to death somewhere between two and 10 years ago - a conclusion that sends Merry sifting through old missing-persons files. But then a shocking piece of news changes everything.

The ending seemed rushed, like there was a deadline for getting the book finished. The murderer's motive, means and opportunity was never really fleshed out to my satisfaction. Seems like space in the book was taken up with other things, instead of that.

Too many French names!
Reviewed: 04-27-23
Couldn't keep track of who's who, too many French names. I know that sounds ridiculous, since it is about the French, but it was just too long. I think this story could have been told in a much shorter time frame. I only finished it, because I was out working in the yard, otherwise I couldn't have gotten through it.

Really good, for a romance novel
Reviewed: 04-02-23
It has enough mystery and intrigue that will keep you interested in this story, and only a few romance parts that will cause you to roll your eyes. And it has an interesting ending, on the mystery part; the other part, you know how it's going to end. 😆
