About this listen

""Horowitz dazzles with the brilliant third entry in his Susan Ryeland series . . . . [He is] is at the top of his game here, linking past and present in a virtuoso finale worthy of Agatha Christie."" Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Murder links past and present once again in this mind-boggling metafictional mystery from Anthony Horowitz featuring detective Atticus Pünd and editor Susan Ryeland, stars of the New York Times bestsellers Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders.

Editor Susan Ryeland has left her Greek island, her hotel and her Greek boyfriend, Andreas, in search of a new life back in England.

Freelancing for a London publisher, she's given the last job she wants: working on an Atticus Pünd continuation novel called Pünd’s Last Case. Worse still, she knows the new writer. Eliot Crace is the troubled grandson of legendary children’s author Miriam Crace who died twenty years ago. Eliot is convinced she was murdered—by poison.

To her surprise, Susan enjoys reading the manuscript which is set in the South of France and revolves around the mysterious death of Lady Margaret Chalfont, days before she was about to change her will. But when it is revealed that Lady Margaret was also poisoned, alarm bells begin to ring.

The more Susan reads, the clearer it becomes that Eliot has deliberately concealed clues about his grandmother’s death inside the book.

Desperately, Susan tries to prevent Eliot from putting himself in harm’s way—but his behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic. Another murder follows . . . and suddenly Susan finds herself to be the number one suspect.

Once again, the real and the fictional worlds have become dangerously entangled. And if Susan doesn't solve the mystery of Pünd’s Last Case, she could well be its next victim.

Riveting! This series has been such a clever journey. I was absolutely enthralled by Susan as a character. It is a brilliant twist to have a book within in a book.

So Much Fun

Miriam Crace resembles JK Rowling. I love the story within a story format. Terrific addition to the series.

Terrific book

The angst and remorse is just ridiculous and created chaos that was way too important in the book. It’s just unbelievable. Get over that and it’s great

Highly improbable but brilliant production

I'll start out and say it was a treat hearing Anthony Horowitz read his generous acknowledgements at the end. It's always nice when an author thanks the team that produces the final creation.
Lesley Manville is a great narrator. She has come to embody Susan Ryeland. I am so glad this third in the series of Ryeland books came out and I hope there will be another at some point. It's great to read/listen to a book with a middle age female heroine and lots of suspense.

I really hate to hear this will be the last in this series! I love Mr. Horowitz story telling style and his talent for keeping you wanting more until the last page is amazing! This is definitely a five star book! I can’t imagine anyone other than Leslie Manville reading them! I’ve watched both series on PBS and loved them!

A great listen!

Once again he buried a whodunnit within a whodunnit, both wonderfully written. I don’t read a lot of straight-up mysteries but AH always makes things much more interesting than anyone else can with clever storytelling tricks like this. Exceedingly well-read as well. Kind of unbelievable how many great books this man has written. He’s a genius. Anyone who disagrees with me is Atticus Pund.

Anthony Horowitz is brilliant. Listen to this amazing book!

I thought it was terrific. And those who love puzzles this is for you.I think Anthony Horowitz is the best mystery novelist England has produced. Look forward watching The film on PBS.

Best of the series and worth the wait.

I now feel like Susan and Atticus are old friends! I can't imagine Horowitz's words performed by anyone else than Leslie & Tim. I can't wait to watch this book on PBS. I thought it the best of the three with an excellent plot, well developed characters and a book within a book.lidten and enjoy! I highly recommend it! I get lost in their world which is the highest tribute to any book I read. Thank you, again, Mr. Horowitz! Wonderful!

such a joy!
