Can't get enough of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Superbly written, with great pacing, top notch voice acting. I typically tend to pick apart any writing with even slightly suspect motivations, contrived situations, or lazy writing, so I am VERY hard to please. This entire series has been an absolute treat, simply couldn't be better. BRAVO!

Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

An excellent blend of sci-fi and fantasy, with really likeable characters(eventually) and fun storylines throughout. It may have a whopping number of hours, but they still passed much too quickly.

Try Al, a well-meaning but impish artificial intelligence with the mind of a six-year-old and a penchant for tantrums. Hope Takeda, a lab assistant charged with educating and socializing Al, soon discovers that day care is a lot more difficult when your kid is an evolving and easily frightened A.I.

Telegraphed plot, one-dimensional characters
Reviewed: 04-03-24
Every single character in this book is defined by one trait. Obnoxious character is nothing but obnoxious, caring only for own comfort. Wise warrior speaks in nothing but confucianisms. Caring CEO doesn't care about riches, only the good of all. Zealot sees nothing but self important delusions of grandeur. They are all caricatures of actual types, with no real substance or intelligence.
I can't tell if the author was just phoning it in, doesn't have any grasp of character design, or is just bad at writing. Even the attempts at humor were hopelessly telegraphed, contriving entire scenes just for a bad one-liner.
Narration was good except for one often repeated, glaring exception: Takeda. I can't believe someone would spend hours reading a script out loud and not spend the moments it would take to get the correct pronunciation.
Frustrating book with a good message, I guess.

When you discover the world is a computer program, and you figure out that by altering the code you can time travel and perform acts that seem like magic, what can possibly go wrong? Pretty much everything. Just ask Brit, who has jumped around in time with such abandon that she has to coexist with multiple versions of herself. Now, Brit the Elder finds that her memories don't match Brit the Younger's.

Didn't lean on the slapstick so much in this one, which is a welcome improvement. Interestingly convoluted plot line, with some good character development.

Martin and his friends discovered that their world is computer generated and that by altering the code they could alter reality. They traveled back in time to Medieval England to live as wizards. Almost everything they've done since then has, in one way or another, blown up in their faces. So of course they decide to make dragons. It does not go well.

This book relies far too heavily on slapstick gags and characters somehow forgetting about their abilities. Feels very much like this one was written for small children only. Also the addition of several obnoxious children as characters did nothing to improve matters.

A very good book, nice continuation of the previously established plot lines, with excellent writing. The cast of characters has expanded a bit, with all the ones you've come to enjoy still in the spotlight. A few small plot holes, and leaned on some tropes from Magic 2.0 a little more heavily than I'd have liked, but really solid all around.
