Story
When Sofia returns from vacation, she discovers that her pet seagull Fred has become her greatest enemy: the paparazzi. Her former agent has dressed him with a tiny camera and created a wildly successful YouTube channel using his footage. To ensure his loyalty, her agent has been bribing Fred with caviar, feeding into his addiction and stoking a fire within his tiny bird heart that can only be quenched by more caviar.

Finally Fred Has His Own Story
Reviewed: 08-03-19
I love these mysteries. Fred The Seagull (who has been in all the Malibu Mystery books) has an agent, a video cam and a popular YouTube channel. He has a mishap involving caviar, a drug deal, and his video recording. Sofia Salgado, her fellow detective Aidan Maloney, and her pint sized bodyguard, Violet try to sort out the whole messy business. There is no way I can do justice to this story in a short review. The Malibu Mystery books are fresh, funny, and make me feel good. The characters are quirky and appealing. You need to listen to the whole series in order, not just for continuity, but because they are just plain fun.
The narrator as usual was great. She embodies the series.

The Chase Is On

I love David Wood’s Dane Maddock and Bones stories, so I was afraid this tale would not live up to their exploits. Blood Codex was a very good adventure story that takes you across Europe at a very fast pace. This is great escapist fiction that keeps you guessing.
Jonathan Waters is an excellent narrator.

Still fun

Would you listen to Back from the Undead again? Why?
Maybe, but the Bloodhound books are not the kind that you forget.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
No. The characters drive the story. You know that some how, some way that things are mostly going to turn out fine. The dialog is fast, fun, and snappy.
What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She makes the characters come alive.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I did not want it to end. Why rush?
Any additional comments?
I really like the quirky, funny, and flawed characters.

Simply Tedious
Reviewed: 09-10-06
Simply Love is tedious and repetitive. The story is fine, but the presentation is poorly executed. Instead of being 11(very long)hours, it could have been pared down to a pleasant 5 hour story. Balogh revisits the Bedwyn clan and Miss Martin's School for Girls in Bath. The heroine, Anne Jewell, is emotionally scared and her love interest is a physically scared war hero. Anne dithers a lot and the war hero is not much better. The two are always second guessing themselves. Instead of adding to the romantic tension this “should I or should I not” self-analysis makes the reader want to scream “get over it”. Unfortunately, Simply Love is simply forgettable.
