I came to the books because of the show. Plot is only sort of based on the books but because the plot and characters are so far from each other I am able to enjoy it as a completely different tale. However, the vocal talent is horrible. The reading is delivered like a bad 1950’s high school educational film. I had to turn the speed up to 1.5x just to make it bearable. I am still not sure this wasn’t read by a poor AI bot.

Story
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

The three voice narration really works well!
Reviewed: 09-10-21
I’m always amazed when a narrator can do multiple voices but have not been a huge fan of multiple narrators in audio books. This one works beautifully with three different actors voicing the three different narratives that tell the story. I was particularly impressed with Louise Brealey (from Sherlock fame). Her voicing was brilliantly multifaceted.

A treasure trove of information!!!
Reviewed: 08-18-21
The amount of information in this book is vast and efficiently laid out. There are stories that bring the historical figures to life and give context to the political climate and failures of our country to extend “freedom” and “liberty” to ALL our people. I highly recommend!
That being said, the narrator has a lovely voice but his delivery is plodding and monotonous at times. When he reads quotes and attempts to voice the subject, all of the voices end up sounding like the same black southern voice, even President Obama. Still, I wouldn’t let that deter me from listening to it again to brush up on my history.
The book was written while Obama was still in office. It tackles none of the overt and dangerous racism that became a state sponsored method for dealing with critics of the now disgraced Former President t****.

I really tried to give this a chance but the characters have no depth and the narrator couldn’t keep his accents separated from one another.
