Hot garbage power fantasy

I'm genuinely stunned that this has such a high review meta, because it's easily the most mediocre story I've read in forever. The characters aren't even one dimensional, they're barely clinging to existence. The MC is a mindless slab of meat that wins every encounter by throwing himself face first into the meat grinder and walks out the other end with more power ups.
There is no tension over whether he'll overcome a challenge because he always wins. There's no character development because his entire personality is "i hit things and get stronger " It's been a while since I've read the previous book and I didn't remember most the cast, including some of the main characters, because they're all very forgettable appendages of the MC that act as substitutes for his personality.
I realize the bar for this genre is low, but stories like these epitome and perpetual the "litrpg slop" meme

Story
Will has thrown himself into a new level of warfare. Using plausibility, Peace was able to fashion platinum-rank corruption, enough to kill everyone in the superdungeon. Nynn saved himself by tossing the effects of this bomb into the Beyond, which was good. This carried the potential of blowing up a solar-system-sized chunk of that plane, which was not. Will managed to seal the corruption within the tunnel his demon-bound skill formed, but then the demon itself got a bit loose and devoured far too much of the dark energy.

Really wanted to like it
Reviewed: 06-13-25
Despite the very heavy "inspiration" the series takes from other LitRPGs, it was a fun story at first, but there isn't enough world building to make the story feel centered. Everything feels arbitrary and improvised and the MC stumbles through one world ending event after another with the thickest plot armor I've ever seen. The characters also feel like the same person... everyone lives for quipy one liners and snark, from grunt soliders to gods.
It feels like the author got lost in the inspiration and hasn't really made this world their own.

Story
The Monarchs, the most powerful sacred artists on Cradle, rule with unquestioned authority. They are mysterious and distant, and catching a glimpse of one is privilege enough for a lifetime. To meet one is to come face-to-face with a legend. Now, they have all gathered in one place, bringing their heirs and greatest students together for a competition to determine whose successor is the best in the world.

At this point in the series I've grown very fond of most of the cast, but this installment really brings it to another level. The personal revelation each of the new lord's experiences is brilliantly crafted. A truly genius melding of the worlds mystical nature and their personal growth both literally and as characters.
Charity is quickly growing to be my new favorite character to hate. Like harmony, she seems to embody the opposite of her namesake and makes me better appreciate why the Akura clan is so feared.

Amazing transition to a new arc
Reviewed: 06-06-25
It's nice to have the first chapter of the story wrapped up, but I wasn't a huge fan of how the duel was handled. The rank disparity should have invalidated it, especially since his opponent was able to draw from powers entirely outside of their rank and Lyndon wasn't allowed to use anything above his own. Or Aython could have simply killed the old geezer and invalidated the need for the battle. I do love the new element of his new integrated weapon though and can't wait to see how it develops.

Amazing performance carrying a confusing story
Reviewed: 05-24-25
I've really enjoyed the series, but don't really recognize it anymore. Most of the story's origins feels abandoned and unfinished. I get that the author is taking us into a new arc, but it feels premature and forced. Exploring the new universe is appealing but I wish things in the existing universe were wrapped up before diving into another journey. It would also be amazing if the MC wasn't constantly hobbled every time he gains new powers. His progress is starting to feel pointless, because it's assumed his new powers will either be nullified by the environment or someone will injure his new ability and take it off the table. Why bother giving him new powers just to take it away a moment later ?
Hopefully the next book brings things to a conclusion. I've enjoyed the journey but it feels played out

In the wake of a cosmic upheaval, Ruwen emerges as an angelic being, his newfound Divinity granting him not just wings, but a destiny intertwined with the fate of the universe. "The Ninth Harbinger" unfolds as a tale of gods and powers beyond comprehension, set against a backdrop where the fabric of reality itself is at stake.

Amazing performance but aimless storytelling

This felt more like the start of a new series rather than a continuation of this series. The introduction of new power concepts and paradigms don't feel organic and leaves so much unfinished from the last book. The major crisis also feels very forced and falls into the benevolent hero trope that I hoped would have faded by now. The MC never learns the lesson beat into him from five books ago to not leave enemies behind who've made it explicitly clear their only goal is to kill him, but he just let's them walk away, so they can regroup and put him and everyone he holds dear in mortal damger.... again.

Story
Ruwen wants nothing more than to relax in the Third Secret and recover from the terrible damage to his core. Escaping the ambush in the Infernal Realm had come at a steep cost—one that means no Spirit use until he heals. Unfortunately, rest is one more thing that needs to wait, because the Bamboo Viper Master’s trial started days ago, and not participating results in the purging of his Step knowledge. Not something he wants to risk.

Decent continuation, but felt a bit hollow
Reviewed: 05-22-25
The training arc didn't really accomplish much other than the MC gaining "enlightenment" which doesn't seem to help him at a critical moment at the end of the book. The reconciliation and forgiving of someone who's repeatedly betrayed and tried to kill him and his friends and family repeatedly doesn't make much sense either. I've really enjoyed the series so far, but this one fell a bit flat for me
