Story
New England, 2022. Three years ago, single mother Mallory Dunne received the telephone call every parent dreads—her ten-year-old son, Sam, had been airlifted from summer camp with acute poisoning from a toxic death cap mushroom, leaving him fighting for his life. Now, searching for the donor kidney that will give her son a chance for a normal life, Mallory’s forced to confront two harrowing secrets from her past: her mother’s adoption from an infamous Irish orphanage in 1952, and her own all-consuming summer romance fourteen years earlier with her childhood best friend, Monk Adams.

I chose this book on a whim. Was pulled in immediately and could not put it down. I was floating on Lake Winnipesaukee when I began the book so the fact it is based, in part, in my backyard did not hurt. Loved the LOVE, perfectly imperfect characters, multiple perspectives and timelines. Will be reading more from this author.

Underwhelming at best. It's not often I enjoy the first half of the book more than the second half but that was the case with this one. I enjoyed how the characters were developed and how they came together. The book fell apart for me in the middle to end - the suspense wasn't that suspenseful and the outcome was not very interesting. I kept expecting more...

Story
Sally Milz is a sketch writer for The Night Owls, a late-night live comedy show that airs every Saturday. With a couple of heartbreaks under her belt, she’s long abandoned the search for love, settling instead for the occasional hook-up, career success, and a close relationship with her stepfather to round out a satisfying life. But when Sally’s friend and fellow writer Danny Horst begins dating Annabel, a glamorous actress who guest-hosted the show, he joins the not-so-exclusive group of talented but average-looking and even dorky men at the show.

Anticlimactic and depressing, I found I couldn’t even muster the enthusiasm to route for the main character. Only positive is the narration by Julia Whelan. If I was reading on my own I would not have finished. Listened on a flight, missed chunks of the book due to naps and did not feel need to skip back.

Spending her thirtieth birthday alone is not what dating columnist Cleo Wilder wanted, but she plans a solo retreat―at the insistence of her boss―in the name of re-energizing herself and adding a new perspective to her column. The remote Irish island she’s booked is a far cry from London, but at least it’s a chance to hunker down in a luxury cabin and indulge in some self-care while she figures out the next steps in her love life and her career.

Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.

Big fan of Emily Henry and Julia Whelan. Count me in on either one! Although this book was not full of surprises, I would not have wanted it to be. Witty intelligent characters, love the rhythm in her prose, a slow build of passion. A little slow to start for me but once it got going I found myself looking for excuses to keep listening. I will pull this one out again when I'm looking to tune out to an entertaining audio.

Half-hidden by forest and overshadowed by threatening peaks, Le Sommet has always been a sinister place. An imposing, isolated getaway spot high up in the Swiss Alps is the last place Elin Warner wants to be. But Elin's taken time off from her job as a detective, so when her estranged brother, Isaac, and his fiancée, Laure, invite her to celebrate their engagement at the hotel, Elin really has no reason not to accept.

Couldn’t wait for it to be over. Listening to the main characters inner musings was mundane and made me thankful that I’m not a mind reader. There were many Captain Obvious moments and others where I sat and wondered WHY?!?! The mystery of who dunnit and the reasons why was anticlimactic. The performance of the narrator did nothing to help the story be entertaining.

Story
Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

I love Brandi, I have since the first time I heard her sing her cover of Hallelujah and I was a gonner after The Story. My BFF's from childhood and I have made it to most shows within our reach. Her music is a shared passion and joy. To hear her share her life moments with humor, candor and humility and then share the songs that were born out of those moments brought me a greater understanding of the music I love and often had me moved to tears at the end of most chapters. I have told every person who would listen how amazing this book is, HER story! I give this memoir and her performance all of the gold and blue stars. She and her story are amazing, I'm thankful she shared it.

Story
An intense psychological thriller for fans of I Am Watching You, The Luckiest Girl Alive, and All the Missing Girls. Two missing girls. Thirteen years apart. Olivia Shaw has been missing since last Tuesday. She was last seen outside the entrance of her elementary school in Hunts Point wearing a white spring jacket, blue jeans, and pink boots. I force myself to look at the face in the photo, into her slightly smudged features, and I can't bring myself to move. Olivia Shaw could be my mirror image, rewound to 13 years ago.

Weak and inconsistent story. Characters were not likable and were under developed. At times it made no sense. With that said, I listened to the end so it has that going for it.
