It was okay
Reviewed: 01-31-25
This clean story is nice for teens and young adults. I like this author but for this series I found it redundant and needing a faster pace. It seemed like it was always going over the same information which was usually the constant rambling thoughts and feelings of the spoken mage. We get it! Move on! I personally would have liked more action of her being the spoken mage and the war. However, it was more focused on the academy and her feelings for the prince and change for the kingdom. In the first few books, I found her overly arrogant because of her ignorance. She tones it down later. Book 2 was completely uneventful (aka boring). Overall it was good, but I did listen at 1.5-1.7x speed. The narrator does fine. I usually like to listen at 2x speed but her accent is too heavy to be able to understand.

This is a clean good book for anyone. Wasn’t boring and not too long. The narrators were very good too. (Although, I disliked the voice of the cat from both narrators.)

Way too much unnecessary profanity
Reviewed: 12-25-23
I really wanted to hear this story. I know nothing about Hindi people, culture, language, and so on, except seeing a little bit of Bollywood stuff. So, I personally liked the narrator. However I couldn’t get through this one, even skipping a few chapters ahead. Normally I will listen to a book with some cussing, if it fits and isn’t distracting. This book drops the f-bomb like it’s the only word the male character knows. So unnecessary. Basically got tired of hearing it. Then the American stereotypes were getting annoying. Bummer. Moving on.

Good Detective Story
Reviewed: 12-20-23
The narrator does an excellent job. I like listening to him. I listened to Long Gore Hall first on a different platform not knowing I was starting way into the book set. So with that, I think you can listen to these books out of order and be kind of okay. If you are looking for just a good, old fashion (in this case, British) crime solving detective book, then these are it. I liked Long Gore Hall better, but this one was still pretty good. I like Detective Tanner and the different cases he takes. I really enjoy all the side characters too. I don’t mean to be the profanity police, but I personally like to know before starting a book. So, heads up, that there is profanity. It seems easier on the ears when a heavy British accent is saying it, haha, and it is used where expected and not just needlessly thrown in everywhere. (Although, the use of JC could be toned down.) Anyway, good story.

Even better than book one!
Reviewed: 12-15-23
Even better than book one. Enjoyed the twist on the wolf being the one within one’s self. Great adventure in saving the kingdom, making true friends and learning about love along the way. Could have used a few more romance building scenes between the couple, but loved the strong characters who were perfect for each other. Also, although a bit predictable, I enjoyed the trials for the monarchy and the ending.
The narrator is growing on me. I didn’t care for Ava’s voice, even in book one, but the narrator does a good job overall. Really enjoyable!

Once again, 17-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad's career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she's a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems, so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father's alcoholism, she's got enough problems of her own.

Not for me
Reviewed: 12-11-23
I was looking for a clean murder mystery. I like a good ghost, dead body, coroner mystery, and it’s okay if there’s a splash of clean romance. Unfortunately I only made it to chapter 6 and gave up. It’s definitely teen setting, content and conversations. (I would not let my 17yr old listen to this though.) Another reviewer is right that the narrator makes the main character sound punk, goth, whatever the right word is. It got annoying the tone she used to end every sentence and say certain words. Fix that and I’d probably really like this narrator. Heads up that there is profanity and talk of immorality and all things teens talk about in a teen way that I personally don’t want to be hearing. I was hoping for a clean, cool, mature girl who sees ghosts and solves a mystery vibe. Instead it was more a dark, typical horny teen, immature, boring, still waiting to get to the mystery type vibe. Go for it if you’re into that. I’m not.

Nice Story
Reviewed: 12-11-23
I’m usually a reader and slowly getting used to audios, so I’m a little sensitive to narration voices making me feel connected to the story. This one is pretty good. Sometimes I didn’t like her way of expressing the females thoughts (as whiny). As far as the story, I’m a fairytale lover, and very interested in this one because there’s not really a detailed story of the Princes and the Pea so there’s lots of room for creativity. This was was clean, simple and enjoyable. I don’t like female characters that are oblivious to the obvious, so I love that her ability is to read people and that it ends up helping the kingdom. I agree with another review that the prince’s character was a little bit weak. That was a little bit of a downer, but it was enjoyable to hear them build their relationship. I liked that there was more than just the romance. There’s some plotting on the kingdom. Wish that had been more in depth. The ending was kind of weak and not the direction I personally wanted, but still decent fairytale happy ending. Overall very good and was closer to a 4.5 star for me. I’m willing to give this authors other stories a try.
