Story
Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead of the uncanny bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice’s grandmother, the reclusive author of a cult-classic book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns how bad her luck can really get: Her mother is stolen away - by a figure who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother's stories are set. Alice's only lead is the message her mother left behind: "Stay away from the Hazel Wood."

OK but I bit too wordy
Reviewed: 10-10-22
the book was ok but a bit too wordy. I get she was trying to paint a picture but it lost my interest sometime. I also kind of feel left down with a couple things. characters were built up through the book then kind of dwindled. not my favorite notbthe worst.

So I have liked this series so far. but this one was just too long and complicated. the story i guess was ok. but just didn't keep me engaged. I've been listening to this for MONTHS and I still have 3 hours left. ugh! usually I can't wait to listen to my book but this one..... I just don't care.
Update: This is the book that will not end!

Story
"Marley was dead to begin with...." These chillingly familiar words begin the classic Christmas tale of remorse and redemption in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge’s miserly business partner, Jacob T. Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn’t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge? Or had he?

Story
For years Ryder Carroll tried countless organizing systems, online and off, but none of them fit the way his mind worked. Out of sheer necessity, he developed a method called the Bullet Journal that helped him become consistently focused and effective. Then it went viral. To his astonishment, Bullet Journaling is now a global movement. The Bullet Journal Method is about much more than organizing your notes and to-do lists. It's about what Carroll calls "intentional living": weeding out distractions and focusing your time and energy in pursuit of what's truly meaningful.

Just tell me how to use the stupid method.
Reviewed: 03-25-19
I have both the book and the audio book. there is too much editorializing and telling me how great and effective Bullet Journaling is. But it just won't tell me how to do it.
I'm sorry I don't care about how the method totally revolutionized some random womans life. I want to know how it can help me. just tell me how to do it.

Book was ok, but I really didn't like the reader for this story. she had a pleasant voice but took odd stops/breather. had no Different creation and characters voices. And sounded like a kindly grandmother than a 30 something psychic.
it is just the wrong book for this reader. I think I would enjoy the books more if I read them myself.

great listen with a few tiny annoyances
Reviewed: 09-12-17
the reader is amazing! I honestly want to download every book he has read. but there is a trend that is really starting to annoy me in audiobooks. the voices are great. I love how talented this and many readers are in making the stories come alive. but.... there is a problem. these "voices" somtimes cause the reader's volume to drop. there was a whole "scene" in this book that a character with a dramatic voice was whispering. I couldn't here it. there have now been 3 books where the readers do an "airy", or "whisper" voice and the sound drops too low.
I believe this is a production problem not a reader problem.... they should equalize better. but I listen to books when I'm running and driving and neither allow for massive volume adjustments every other conversation or repeating entire scenes over and over agin. it breaks the rythem of the book and massively decrease my enjoyment.
