Story
The war should have been over. But it’s not for a group of nationalists grabbing for control. It’s been two weeks since a missile with a nuclear warhead tore through the planetary defenses in the most blistering large-scale attack ever committed in the history of the Gaia system. Commander Dunstan Park of the Rhodian navy has been handpicked to command an experimental cruiser that could dictate the course of the escalating conflict. All he has to do is keep the ship from falling into the wrong hands.

Something finally happened
Reviewed: 09-16-21
The first 2 books were good, but kept feeling like a build up, something finally happened here, and its just the beginning. The 3rd narrator in this series is a major issue. Pay Luke Daniels what he wants, He's the best for these types of books.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

This might be one of the best audio books ever.
Reviewed: 06-09-21
I can't say enough good things about this book. The narrator was perfect, the pace is perfect, the joking timing is perfect, the friendship and heartwarming moments are perfect, the characters are perfect. I just really enjoyed this. I loved the excitement about the science and math of it all, I loved the scope of the situation and weight it had on everyone. I don't re-listen many audio books, but I probably will do that with this one soon. I will definitely preorder whatever the next thing is from this author especially if the same narrator is reading it. Well done.

Poor production quality and stories that are short
Reviewed: 05-05-21
This seemed like it would be interesting, but the there are 69 chapters in a 5 and 1/2 hour book. Each "story" is around 5 minutes. They really don't go into enough detail to make it interesting, they are all like teasers with a little bit of facts. I would have rather had a third of the stories with about 4 times the details so I would feel like I learned something. The production quality isn't that good either. They read the table of contents for like 6 minutes. They also repeated a story in 2 chapters, so the editor either screwed up, or they didn't record one of the chapters and just tossed one of the ones already read in there in hopes no one would notice.

Couldn't even make it through the whole thing
Reviewed: 04-28-21
Couldn't even make it through the whole book. A self help book on how to be happy at work that spends all it's time talking about things that the average worker can't control without quitting their job and randomly lucking into their dream job is not helpful. If you want to hear stories about other people being happy because they found that, then this is for you. I cannot recommend this one.

I was super disappointed the Luke Daniels didn't narrate this. He is Andrew Greyson to me. that being said, this narrator was good as well. as far as the book goes, it's just as good as the rest, love the universe, and love getting more of the story.

Story
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Liked the concept, the world was about what I expected it to be. This one read more like a movie script read through to me. Maybe it was just the length. Could have used more depth.

There is a personal price to pay for having aligned with the wrong side in a reckless war. For Aden Jansen it's the need to adopt a new identity while keeping his past hidden. Now he's integrated himself aboard the Zephyr, a merchant ship smuggling critical goods through dangerous space. But danger is imminent on planet Gretia, as well. Under occupation, torn between postwar reformers and loyalists, it's a polestar for civil unrest.

Reviewed: 09-22-20
First off, I was disappointed that the narrator changed from the previous book, I really like Luke Daniels. This narrator was ok, but not as good. As far as the story goes, it was just more of the same from the first book, a big build up to something. That something better be good in the 3rd installment.

How do you tell your part in the biggest tale in history? I ask because it's what I have to do. I'm Zoe Boutin Perry: A colonist stranded on a deadly pioneer world. Holy icon to a race of aliens. A player (and a pawn) in a interstellar chess match to save humanity, or to see it fall. Witness to history. Friend. Daughter. Human. Seventeen years old. Everyone on Earth knows the tale I am part of. But you don't know my tale: How I did what I did—how I did what I had to do—not just to stay alive but to keep you alive, too.

The narrator's pronunciation of names bothered me way more than the fact that this book is the same story as Last Colony. At least it filled in some of the holes left by Last Colony.
