About this listen

An interplanetary battle is renewed in an epic novel of a warring solar system by the author of Ballistic.

The war should have been over. But it’s not for a group of nationalists grabbing for control.

It’s been two weeks since a missile with a nuclear warhead tore through the planetary defenses in the most blistering large-scale attack ever committed in the history of the Gaia system. Commander Dunstan Park of the Rhodian navy has been handpicked to command an experimental cruiser that could dictate the course of the escalating conflict. All he has to do is keep the ship from falling into the wrong hands.

On Gretia, the powder keg is beyond control. A terrorist attack against civilians draws Idina Chaudhary into a costly battle. It also forces a cautious Aden Jansen back into the fray. Now dedicated to a just cause, he’s still keeping his past hidden. The risk of exposing his former alliance could twist not only his fate but also that of his sister, Solveig, heir to the family empire.

With no time to waste, Dunstan hits the ground running. But as insurgents threaten the unstable peace, what’s ahead for both sides could change the destiny of the Gaia system forever.

Critic reviews

“A series you should start if you are a fan of grounded space opera with a military lean. The Palladium Wars comes at straight-up military fiction from an angle that keeps it interesting.” (Locus Magazine)

Please do not change the voice actor in the middle of a series!

I had waited eagerly for Citadel to come out. I even pre-ordered the audio book. If I had known that this would be yet another voice actor I would not have bothered.

It feels disloyal to customers to randomly change readers - a kind of audio bait and switch. While I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to all of Marko Kloos books up until now, I will not continue with this series through Audio. It feels like this is happening more and more with audio. It is enough to cause me to re-examine my audio membership altogether.

Korey Jackson is more of a reader than voice actor. He is definitely not Luke Daniels who made Marko Kloos’ first series successful. Sorry guys- this one was a bridge too far for this listener.

There better be a sequel, dang it!!

The story wrapped up fine but left way too many personal story lines hanging. It is bad enough that if I’d seen it coming I wouldn’t have started the trilogy. In fact, I’m so frustrated I’d like to give it three stars but the story really was five star good. Thanks for jerking your audience around!!

3 books 3 narrators

I like the series, there needs to be consistency in the narrators. I prefer the first narrator, but any of the three would’ve been better than changing every book.

Great series ruined by narration

Three books, three narrators, and the result was to bomb a great series. The third narrator was the worst. Painful
Story itself was a good follow on and became more interesting. Recommend reading vs listening.

Story finally takes off!

l like Kloos and I'm glad I stuck with the series. And while the story progressed this book had another narrator. Not bad but notas good as the previous two. Not sure why the game of musical narrators. Sorry to hear it end, can't wait for the next installment.

Great Cliffhanger!

I can't wait to find out what happens next. It took me awhile to get used to the gentle times of the new narrator but once I got back into story it was fine. He did a good job separating the characters so they didn't run into each other or blur together.

The characters have really developed, I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next installment. I really emailed the Frontline series and this may turn out to be even better!

"I want pay-back. And so do you."

Book three in the Palladium Wars series, the Citadel follows on immediately from the previous action. The detonation of a nuclear device has killed thousands of Rhodians a E tensions are growing ever more extreme. The story is told through the circu!ating points of view of four main protagonists: Aden, previously a prisoner of war and now working with false parts on a small but very fast private ship, Dunstan, newly promoted to Commander and given an as yet untried ship expected to be able to outmanoever any others despite it's small size; Idina, Palace Brigade, grateful that the disruption had at least temporarily suspended her being sent away from active duty, and finally. Solvent vice president of the Ragnar Industries, still dominated by her father but finally beginning to come into her own, whilst secret!y maintaining occasional contact with her vanished brother, Aden. The picture of distrust and increasing tension grows as the stories of the different protagonists unfold..

I really enjoy the writings of Marko Kloos, simple but, in just a few words, ably deliveringa broad spectrum of description, graphically revealing not just the images but the feel of a place and time. Add in the well crafted characters and the books become remarkably real. And the narrator, Korey Jackson, adds additional depth with a clearly articulated, well paced and modulated reading, giving individual voice to all protagonists - a fine performance.

I confess it: I've been a fan of the author since Terms of Enlistment, book one in the Frontlines series. It had, in the chaos of action, such an intimate feel. Now The Palladium Wars, though very different, is also showing that same brilliance of simplicity in the midst of confusion. I really commend The Palladium Wars to all S.F.readers and think that Citadel is the best in the series so far. I hope that it won't be too long to wait for book four

Great series, read it , different narrators suck but this doesn’t take away from a good story

Eagerly waiting for book 4!

Great series! He has done an excellent job of building this world and building story lines that was run the entire series. This is one of the best new series I have started in a long time.

The narration does take a step back in book three. Luke Daniels and Angelo Di Lioreto (RIP) both were excellent but not an option. The new narrator who will be narrating moving forward is decent. He has a good voice and does not mispronounce or butcher anything. He cannot do different "accents" or inflections for the alien races. He is fine but has two voices: Male and Female. The first two narrators were 5 star and he cannot hang with them, I would grade him as a 3 star.
