Story
After the events in Gathering Prey, Lucas Davenport finds himself in a very unusual situation - no longer employed by the Minnesota BCA. His friend, the governor, is just cranking up a presidential campaign, though, and he invites Lucas to come along as part of his campaign staff. "Should be fun!" he says, and it kind of is - until they find they have a shadow: an armed man intent on killing the governor...and anyone who gets in the way.

I listened to ever book in this series and everyone was good but most were spectacular. I just hope I can find books that are at this level. I loved listening getting to know all the characters.

Story
The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson, Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.
He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was...something smelled bad - like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to 15 bodies and counting.

Art history professor James Qatar’s hobby was taking secret photographs of women. At night when he was all alone, he’d dream about them and indulge his fantasies. Then one day, his fantasy went too far. Now it’s Qatar’s turn to become an obsession - of Davenport’s. And for both men, there’s no turning back.

Few writers have explored the human dark side with as much insight and power - and in Winter Prey, his shattering New York Times best-seller, Sandford tells his most ice-blooded tale of all. Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport has tracked killers in cities across America. But even he may be unprepared to face the savage murderer hunting human prey in the Wisconsin woods this winter.

Different character voices
Reviewed: 08-29-16
The narrator switched up the voices a lot. Sometimes a woman character would have a man voice. Other than that it is a good book. I enjoy all the different plot twists.

Story
The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

Pretty good
Reviewed: 07-31-16
Overall the book is good. The narrator confused me a few times with his voice changes of the same character. I did not like the flashback ( I guess that is what it was) of the battle, I can't remember if it was General Custer. It was some battle a long long time ago, I didn't get when the story would change to that.

I was almost in tears a few times. The story line was predictable, but well written. You can feel the emotion of every character, even the dog. I'm going to look for more from this author.
