From a New York Times best-selling and Hugo award-winning author comes a modern masterwork of science fiction, introducing a captain, his crew, and a detective as they unravel a horrifying solar system wide conspiracy that begins with a single missing girl. Humanity has colonized the solar system - Mars, the Moon, the Asteroid Belt and beyond - but the stars are still out of our reach. I was actually first turned on to this series by the show on st fy. I have to say that this book really didn't let me down. This is one instance where I have to say the television performance isn't worse than the book. It's just different. The book does a lot better job at world building and making a more believable plot. The show does a better job of creating interesting characters. I recommend that you check out both for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Too much of it focused on pop culture. Though the actual language lessons were good.

Story
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Wow I am glad this was my first audio book

Wow! What an incredible story told by an extraordinary gentlemen! I only wish this story was longer. Actually, I wish it never ended at all, and merely continued to ramble on infinitely on the rules of civility.
