Excellent example of the mystery/thriller with humorous overtones. Certainly one of the best books of 2024.

I'm not sure how it seems like every page of this book presented an insight, a shock, or a "wow" moment, but it did. I could not stop listening and my blood pressure certainly should not have been able to take it. This is simply brilliant writing, narration, and plot building and I cannot wait to hear more from this author and narrator.
Oh, and please ignore the complaining about the author's talk about race - - those people didn't understand that this book is ABOUT race, poverty, historical enmity, and bigotry that lived inside people who themselves were at the low end of the socioeconomic scale. The mechanism for that message is one of the best thrillers you'll read in a very long time.

A masterful plot with fascinating characters we've come to know and care about. This one moves along at a rapid pace with some real heart pounding moments and an intriguing plot. As always, the narrator is a true master of storytelling. Excellent and can hardly wait for the next one in the series.

Story
If there’s one trait that makes someone well-suited to comedy, it’s being able to take a punch - metaphorically and, occasionally, physically. Told with a healthy dose of self-deprecation, A Very Punchable Face reveals the brilliant mind behind some of the dumbest sketches on television, and lays bare the heart and humor of a hardworking guy - with a face you can’t help but want to punch.

Not sure if it's just my age or the wonderful relationship he has with this mother, but I wanted to adopt Colin Jost by the end of this book. Have watched SNL for decades (and decades....) and liked what he did on the News with my other want-to-adopt son, Michael Che. But reading about him and what I thought would be a totally white bread life was great fun and made me see why he's such a fan favorite.

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Such a fascinating idea - - such a truly trying book! The ideas for making this AMAZING were all laid out, some characters were brilliantly explained and presented, some were left to wallow in near explanations - - others were introduced and not fleshed out. The ending....please don't make me go there. Still, 3/4ths of the book is enough to merit a listen.

I’m moved by the story, brilliant narration and lessons taught in this delightful and entertaining book. The narrator has one of the most interesting voices I’ve heard with the ability to soften his rich baritone into a softer tone and different accent based on the character he’s portraying. The plot stays with you long after finishing and reminds me of so many life lessons that I’m still incorporating into my everyday existence. This one is life affirming and poignant and not to be missed.
