INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

“Madcap fun, with an entertaining new cast of characters and Osman’s trademark wit. Delightful!”Shari Lapena

From the #1 bestselling author of The Thursday Murder Club Series

A brand new mystery. An iconic new detective duo. And a thrilling new murder to solve . . .

Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He still does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar routines: the pub quiz, his favorite bench, his cat waiting for him at home. His days of adventure are over. Adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s job now.

Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. Working in private security, every day is dangerous. She’s currently on a remote island protecting mega-bestselling author Rosie D’Antonio, until a dead body and a bag of money mean trouble in paradise. So she sends an SOS to the only person she trusts . . .

As a thrilling race around the world begins, can Amy and Steve outrun and outsmart a killer?

Solving murders. It’s a family business.

Critic reviews

“Richard Osman has a whole new cast of characters for you to adore. . . a fiendish mystery and rollicking adventure suffused with warmth and wit.”—Washington Post

“[Osman] introduces a beguiling new team of sleuths . . . and sends this crew on a globe-spanning investigation, enlivening his tale with dry wit, crisp dialogue, sharply drawn characters and a pinch or three of sentiment.”—Wall Street Journal

“Madcap fun, with an entertaining new cast of characters and Osman’s trademark wit. Delightful!”Shari Lapena, New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door

Editorial Review

A retired detective, a kick-ass bodyguard, and a cat named Trouble
I always feel a dash of anxiety when one of my favorite authors kicks off something totally new, but the fantastic new series starter from Richard Osman does not disappoint. There are some familiar tropes at play: retiree Steve Wheeler dabbling in investigatory work, a diverse cast of characters who come together over pints and trivia. But he ups the ante with Steve's daughter-in-law Amy, a truly hardcore veteran-turned-bodyguard who works for an elite protection contractor. And the murders these two find themselves needing to solve are epic and global in scale. In true Osman form, the dialogue is punchy, fast-paced, and smart, making this listen completely impossible to put down thanks to Nicola Walker's adroit and vibrant narration. — Emily C., Audible Editor

Who are you?

I liked the relationships shared between the characters. The mystery part was hard to follow. There were too many characters. The twist ending would have been more exciting if I knew who they were talking about. The warmth of the main characters and their stories made the book enjoyable.

Can’t wait for the next one

Osman’s gift is the combination of combining a rollicking adventure with quirky and damaged characters that he treats with such tenderness. This gift is abundantly present in this book. If you love a murder mystery but like good writing and wonderful characters, well this is it.

AWESOME

Awesome doesn't come close to describing how good this book is. I hope Richard Osman is busy writing the sequel to this book because I can't wait to see what happens next with these characters.

Did not Disappoint!!

I love Richard Osman’s writing! An intriguing, twisting and turning murder mystery that kept me reaching for my phone to listen whenever I could but one, like the Thursday Murder Club books, is rooted in friendship, family, compassion and rightness in the world. Can’t wait for the next one from Osman!

Gotta love Steve

Loved this book. The book was a bit cliche but really fun to read. Did guess the bad guy until right before the end. Fun and funny

Funny, smart globetrotting mystery

Absolutely loved this jaunt of a novel. The characters are over-the-top, without being unrealistic. In fact, I’d love to hang out with them on quiz night in the pub. Overall, a satisfying, humorous story performed beautifully by the narrator.

Can’t wait for more!

I love the Thursday Murder Club, and this one is just as captivating! A rich cast of characters and many exciting twists and turns. Is does not disappoint. The only criticism I might have is that the cast of characters is too large. It’s hard to keep up with the who’s who of the story.

Rosie Dantonio Is My New Favorite Literary Character!

With the same wit and charm of his previous Thursday Murder Club series, Richard Osman delivers a new set of characters on a worldwide murder mystery! I was skeptical that it would be too much like the TMC books, or too unlike them, or worse too much like the several other "cozy British murder mystery" books that have attempted to recreate the magic of the TMC books, but no! This is a new, fresh story and cast of characters who Osman quickly makes you fall in love with. I highly recommend this book, even if you haven't read the TMC books (and really, why haven't you yet?).
