Would you listen to Death of a Doxy again? Why?

Yes. It is a fine, complex puzzle with a satisfying resolution. Good strong characters, too, and some nicely evil ones.

What other book might you compare Death of a Doxy to and why?

Stout's Death of a Dude, for no good reason other than similarity of title.

What about Michael Prichard???s performance did you like?

After several of Pritchard's readings of the Wolfe books, I can't imagine anyone else reading them.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The interaction between Wolfe and Jacquette, the night club singer is priceless.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. This is Terry Pratchett at his best, funny and wise.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There are too many to choose from. I'd have to say Nanny Ogg in this one, because of her laid-back and unashamed attitude to life, sex and food.

Which scene was your favorite?

Nanny Ogg in the restaurant making a shambles of the seductive dinner.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It took me 3 sittings, but yes, I would love to have done it in one go.

Any additional comments?

This book is filled with great individuals. All 3 witches. The Librarian. The Arch Chancellor. The Dean and his dried frog pills. Ponder Stibbins and his theories of quantum magic. Casanunda, the dwarf 2nd greatest lover in the world. (We try harder,)

On top of this the story is exciting and compelling. There is so much packed into this book it's a wonder it doesn't explode.

Would you consider the audio edition of Dorsai! to be better than the print version?

No. Not worse, either. Both audio and print have strength and weaknesses. The main thing I miss with audio is being able to go back and check something I may have not paid enough attention to the first time through. Yes, you *can* go back, but not as easily aas leafing through pages.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Donal, of course. He is the hero. somewhat enigmatic and shallow, but this is sci-fi and we don't often get character development. :-)

Have you listened to any of Stefan Rudnicki???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Mercenaries across the universe!

Any additional comments?

Good book but not Dickson's best. He improved as a writer as his career progressed. But you need to read this book to fully undeerstand some of the later books in the Dorsai series.

What made the experience of listening to The New New Rules the most enjoyable?

There is a lot of humor. Dark humor, often, but still funny.

Who was your favorite character and why?

does not apply

What about Bill Maher???s performance did you like?

Bill read the rules as if he werre performing on his HBO show.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

2 sittings did it for me.

Any additional comments?

If you've seen HBO's Real Time weekly comedy you are aleady familiar with Bill's New Rules. There is nothing new here but maybe you've forgotten or missed something. It is worth the time to listen.

If you have not seen Real Time but are a fan of Maher you are in for a treat. Bill delivers exquisite timing in his social and political humor. There is often irreverant wisdom underneath the humor and you can learn from him.

Worth the listen

interesting sociological study of life amoong the poor in France and England.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Orwell. author and hero.

Which character ??? as performed by Frederick Davidson ??? was your favorite?

Orwell.

If you could take any character from Down and Out in Paris and London out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Orwell. He is cultured and erudite, even in poverty.

Any additional comments?

I highly reccomend this book. It is dated, I am sure, as even poverty does not stand still. Even so, it is a remarkable first-hand study of life among the poor in France and England in the 1930s.

Orwell describes his struggles in Paris, as his money runs out and pawn shops are his only resource. Later, he has jobs in restaurants, both posh and less so, and tells of his empployers abuse, disdain and, in some cases, outright robbery. He tells of drunken nights among the working poor, who have no other source of entertainment.

The story moves to London, where an expected job is delayed a month. Orwell spends that month mostly as a tramp, among tramps, and discovers dignity, honor (I should say

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The book is a classic and worth the time, but the reader cannot pronounce basic words.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mysterious Stranger and Other Stories?

The thin line between good and evil, and how most evil is done by men, not devils.

Would you be willing to try another one of William Fortier???s performances?

No. He can't pronounce basic words. He should spend time with a good pronouncing dictionary before trying to read a book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My reaction was mostly pique at the reader, and trying to guess what word he *really* meant.

Any additional comments?

Any Twain is good, but I'd try a different reader.
