Read it don’t listen to it.
Reviewed: 05-05-24
The story is interesting enough but the reader is terrible and hard to listen to. It’s like she is just learning to read English. It is stiff and her inflection is off. Awful. She should have been auditioned to read and then passed over. The reader can make or break a story for the listener.

It took awhile to get into. It gets really good about half way through. If you are grieving it may be a difficult book for you. It’s a book about how grief can really mess you up! See a counselor and get medication if needed. Talk it out!

If you love reading about strong women, here ya go!

Loved it! Belle was a strong smart woman fighting for a life, happiness, and for her family. I enjoyed learning about J P Morgan and the early 1900s.
It’s interesting that authors wrote during the COVID pandemic, but didn’t mention anything about the Spanish flu of 1918 in the book.

Story
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Crushing reality

I have listened and read this amazing story. Ten stars! The guy who reads this IS Demon. He is perfection in his performance. He makes the story come alive. Bravo. This heartbreaking story reminds me, as a volunteer in inner city school and growing up in rural AR, that DHS is still not working and we must do better by these kids. There needs to be a constant “War on Drugs”. Have you seen the movie “Pain Killer”? Here we still are. Lord have mercy.
