not as good as most of Hamilton's other books. finally builds a head of steam toward the end, then abruptly ends on a cliffhanger. interesting concepts/ characters aren't explored as thoroughly as I'd hope. but there are some unique concepts that I appreciate

Story
Guns of the Dawn is a pacey, gripping fantasy of war and magic from Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning author Adrian Tchaikovsky. The first casualty of war is truth.... First, Denland's revolutionaries assassinated their king, launching a wave of bloodshed after generations of peace. Next they clashed with Lascanne, their royalist neighbour, pitching war machines against warlocks in a fiercely fought conflict.

dull. 'from good family' blah blah 'a WOMAN soldier?' I've enjoyed everything by Tchaikovsky I've read: cage of souls, children of time sieres, Apt, but this not this one. thinly veiled period drama. no 'big ideas' Ive come to expect and enjoy from him.

I kept waiting for plot development... and then it ended. Told as a character-centric story, but they dont end up mattering much to the plot.

lacked the mysterious aspects which I enjoyed so much in the first two in the series. plot timeline felt off and didnt build much tension for me personally.
