Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Amazing!

One of the best books I've ever read! Stephen King will go down in history as one of the best authors who ever lived. I'm not one for his horror novels, but still, he is amazing. I highly recommend this book. Also, the narrator is one of the best I've ever heard.

Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

Horrible narration

Really? Forte is pronounced “fort ay,” not “fort.” Very monotone and droning. Wasn’t that thrilled with the story either. Alice Hoffman has written better.

Story
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Hit close to home

This book hot so close to home for me. I suffered from postpartum depression in the mid to late 80,, just before it really came to the forefront. I wish I had known what they came to know. Although this book does condone abortion, I understand why. The narration was excellent also. It was hard to listen to bu oh so worth it.

Story
Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes best-selling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast. They’re polar opposites. In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

Didn’t want to love
Reviewed: 09-26-20
First let me say, I hate sappy romance books. This got so many positive reviews that I decided to give it a try anyway. By the time I finished the book, I was fully invested in January’s and Gus’ story. It was funny and moving. And I LOVE Julia Whelan. This wasn’t the first book I’ve listened to by her and she was another reason I decided to listen to it. So glad I did!

On the night her single mother is taken to a mental hospital after a psychotic episode, eight-year-old Francie is staying with her babysitter, waiting to take the train to Los Angeles to go live with her aunt and uncle. There is a lovely lamp next to the couch on which she's sleeping, the shade adorned with butterflies. When she wakes, Francie spies a dead butterfly, exactly matching the ones on the lamp, floating in a glass of water. She drinks it before the babysitter can see.

Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

I didn’t want to listen to this book because I felt that I had read enough historical fiction about the Holocaust. I’m so glad I did! I was crying so hard at the end of the book and I don’t usually cry when I read a book. The story and narration were beautiful. I highly recommend this book.
