The first half of the book was good once you got past the weird pauses the narrator makes. The second half was too chopped up and impossible to follow.

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. This book is so Grapes of Wrath. Nothing good happens to this family. I didn’t find the characters endearing. The nickname “Ant” of the little boy named Anthony grated my nerves so much that by the end of the book I just wanted the whole ordeal to be over. Kristen Hannah is an amazing author and the narrator does a great job. The things I didn’t like about this book I realize are personal likes/ dislikes and another listener may love the things I could not.

This book was very long. At times I thought “I wish it would go a little faster.” That being said, I was interested all the way through.
The level of historical research that went in to this is astounding.
The Narration is perfect. Narration can make or break a book. This narrator was on point.
If you enjoy historical fiction, you will not be disappointed with this book.

Loved it......but....
Reviewed: 04-04-19
This is very well written. The story is detailed, but not to the point of boredom, it's informative, it's everything you want it to be.....and then......the spit sounds. Thank goodness there are several readers. Only one of them has the spit noises or I would not have made it through this audio version. Just when I would get to my breaking point with it, the narrator would switch. I seriously do not understand how that gets through editing.
This is a lovely story, don't let that keep you from it, although you will want to poke the eyes out of the narrator before its done, you will be glad you listened.
