Story
As an agent of Supernatural Protection & Investigations (SPI), I know that evil doesn’t take a vacation, but this time it made an exception and followed me on mine. I’m Makenna Fraser, seer for SPI, and I’m taking my boyfriend, goblin dark mage Rake Danescu, home for the holidays to meet my family. Weird Sisters is a small town in the North Carolina mountains that was built on a network of ley lines that magnify psychic and paranormal energies.

Sad Narration

Merely reading the words is not narrating the story. I love the SPI Files novels and have all of them. Until this recorded novel, Audible has provided wonderful narration. This recording missed the mark.

Story
Former bounty hunter Rachel Morgan has it pretty good. She has left the corrupt Inderland Runner Service and started her own independent service. She's survived werewolves, shape-changing demons, bad-hair days, and sharing a church with her vampire roommate, Ivy. She even has a cute (if human) boyfriend - what more could a witch want? But living with a reformed vampire isn't all it's cracked up to be.

A Great Second Book

What did you love best about The Good, the Bad, and the Undead?
I really enjoy Rachael's character. She is young, impetuous, fearless, and loyal. The mythology is rich. Rachel Morgan is an an independent runner who nearly almost lost her life to a demon disguised as a vampire in the first book. That story established Rachel as a freelance investigator, living with an almost undead vampire (Ivy), in an old church. In the garden live her trusty assistant, Jenks (a pixie), and his family. Vampires can live in the daylight, the werewolves are organized, and Ever After is not a nice place to be. Kim Harrison makes you believe.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Trent’s storyline is a clincher. We have such a love-hate relationship with his character right now. He has been set up as the worst kind of bad guy and is certainly seems to be doing his best to earn that reputation. Still Kim Harrison surrounds him in enough mystery to wonder if he could possibly turn out to be a good guy in the end?
Have you listened to any of Marguerite Gavin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I heard her in Dead Witch Walking. Now, her voice is Rachael's voice in my head.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Things come together in a terrifically violent climax. Certain secrets are revealed, and other mysteries come to are brought to light. It is brutal and brilliant.
